I have been reading text descriptions of how P and N semiconductors work but could not get a clear picture in my head. Your presentation really clarified things for me, and the little “animations” really helped explain what was happening. Many thanks 😊

Excellent explanation, Ron. That's pretty much how I taught it for 30+ years and the students pick up on it readily. I always told them that Zener Man operated in the Reverse-Biased mode -- hence the dress. He he he. "Lessons taught with humor are Lessons remembered." Just sane... :^) Saint

I would say that "Diodes act as one-way check valves" rather than switches. Transistors (can) act as switches. Overall a very good, concise, description of diodes. :)

So good! I Have a question, I did not understand how applying high voltage can create the electron flow when reversed biased? Does that happen when there are no holes left in the p-type material, so electrons from negative source can move through the ions and go to the positive source?
