How Should Christians Eat
In today's fast-paced world, the choices we make about what we eat can have profound implications for our health, our spiritual well-being, and our relationship with God. But what does the Bible say about how Christians should eat and what they should eat?
What Should Christians Eat?
As Christians, we understand that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and how we care for them matters. Let's explore what the Bible says about our diet and eating habits.
First and foremost, the Bible emphasizes the importance of self-control. In Proverbs 23:20-21, it says, 'Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags.
This verse reminds us that overindulgence in food or drink can lead to physical and spiritual harm. Instead, we should strive for balance in our eating habits. I like to refer to this as being satisfied. Satisfied in what He has given us, satisfied in how our body feels when we stop before over indulging.
What Should Christians Eat
Second, the Bible encourages us to prioritize whole, natural foods. In Genesis 1:29, God says, 'Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.
God's original plan for humanity's diet consisted of fruits, vegetables, grains, and nuts-nourishing foods that provide essential nutrients for our bodies.
Biblical Eating Principles
By choosing foods that are 1. Designed by God and real food. 2. As close to his design as possible, and 3. Don’t let any food become an addiction, we can then see at our meal times opportunities for thanksgiving and fellowship, we honor God's creation and demonstrate stewardship of the resources He has given us.
Foods designed in a laboratory are exactly that - lab experiments. When a package says beyond beef - it is totally beyond anything you should eat. If it says - I can’t believe its not - then its not. Avoid If the label has words that are not food - its not food.
Real food is real. We can identify it, we can know it is best.
