So nice to here you expand upon this. I've been doing what I call "bike-running" until I redevelop the stamina to slow jog to the nice places I want to experience and then slow jog back. I'll bike to the scenic area I want to visit which is also good moderate exercise, and then get off and jog beside the bike for several minutes, take my pulse then get back on the bike, cool down a little then get back off the bike and jog for a couple of minutes, stop, take my pulse, get back on the bike, etc. I am slowly increasing the time that I jog, and the number of times I repeat that, and it's developing nicely. I think it is important check your pulse so that you aren't up to maximum heart rate too long or too often. Maybe up to 75 to 80% if you want for up to 10 minutes at a time, although higher and longer is fine as you increase your fitness. As is pointed out in this video though, moderate exercise with an increase in pulse, say up to 50% of max has many benefits as well. It bears repeating that if you are not very fit, you maybe should check with your Dr. first. So your max heartrate is about 220 minus your age. The easiest way to feel/take your pulse is to feel it on either side of your voice box with your thumb on one side and your fingers on the other, and then count the number of beats for six seconds and then multiply by 10. - - ie. with 14 beats in 6 seconds you pulse or bpm is 140.

Idk why, but i can relate to DSY. Back in the day, I discovered the love for running, but life took over, and I quit running. I recently found my movement again and started running again. My knees hurt, my back hurts, my lungs are struggling, but I do love the feeling of running. I'm going to start slow running now. DSY. OK!

Makes sense. I used to push myself too hard when I was younger, ran long distances beyond what was good for me, suffered undesirable heart palpitations and excessive exhaustion, bruised my heels, and developed knee injuries exacerbated by abusive martial art training. My knee cartilage was torn, I felt broken pieces in my knees, I was in constant agony, barely able to walk or sleep properly, an MD discussed knee surgery with me. He said at the very least, my knees required a long rest. I turned to Christian meditations and opted for PT, which helped over time I had to give-up my formal martial art training. Gradually, my knees felt better as long as I took it easy, but no more spinning, jumping, or twisting movements for me. I continued my study of nutritional medicine. After some years, I learned about connective tissues and the role of bone broth collagen, hyaluronic acid and other anti-inflammatory nutrients in the maintenance of these tissues, added them to my daily nutritional habits. Now decades later, I am primarily a slow jogger, mixed with fast walking, and periodic short sprints which I think increase telomere lengths. I am extremely grateful to say, my knee damage has healed. I returned to martial art training once again, and I feel like a young and capable athlete, even at an advancing age.

This is such a relief to find this channel! Love your videos! Started this slow jogging along with my intermittent walks. (And added your squats and other isometrics) This slow jogging is fun!! It is done in the house- jogging IN PLACE ( not outside)on a mat or carpet, in your socks or bare feet. I saw it on a report on Japanese news. I downloaded a suggested metronome and they said set it at 180BPM. Light touch feet and boy you can do this -but get sweaty after 15 min, but it is energizing. I love it. 3 times a week. I love it that it’s something I can do inside on bad weather days. I set the Metronome and turn the volume down and put on a program that I can watch to take my mind off of everything ! It’s great! The news program showed it in a gym setting with a bunch of seniors all doing this slow jogging with an encouraging leader at the front of the room. My walks are every day, 7 days a week for an hour…weather permitting. I’m 77 and feeling great. Thanks for your channel!!

Ok, so I watched the full video. Loved the outro - very funny. The problem that I see with this form of running for me is that it is too boring. No adrenaline, no excitement, no challenge, no stimulation. Hence I wouldn't be motivated to do it consistently. So it might technically have a lot of benefits, but if you don't do it, then the only benefits exist in academic papers and studies. I think many people must agree with me, because I don't see anyone doing this 'slow' jogging. I prefer running on trails with hills. If I want to have an easy day I'll run 1/3 of the tougher hills or maybe completely walk them. Easy or moderate hills are run. Makes the runs interesting, challenging, stimulating, with a sense of achievement after completing.

Having pushed myself really hard for the past 12 or so years, always running at a pace of around 14 km/h, I really need to try and take it down a notch now - after turning 40. I can really feel the difference in my legs as well as the way I'm breathing, that I'm no youth no more and running like this really takes a toll on my body. The problem is that I get so bored whenever I try to slow down, even at a pace of between 12 to 13 km/h, that I have a hard time to _not_ be going faster - getting back to my "normal" speed without even thinking about it. Very encouraging video, thanks!

Finally! Someone I can relate to 😁I guess I can finally put a label on me - a slow jogger in my early 40s 😂 I've always hated the concept of running because it just hurt after attempts, even in my 20s. I only started jogging for the last couple of months after discovering (almost) barefoot sandals. My feet stopped hurting, and the chunky shoes made me hate running. But these days, I'm finally enjoying slow jogging with walking intervals. I do 2-3 min slow jogs, then 1-2 min walks. I hope to increase that gradually. No more injuries, no pains, no fatigue! No plans of training for/joining marathons because those don't interest me. I just do it for fitness at least 3x a week, to not feel exhausted most of the time and for some me time. I also mostly breathe through my nose. I try exhaling through the mouth, but it's hard. Maybe in a few months, I'll be able to carry a conversation while jogging like you 😊 not that I want to coz it's my quiet time haha. Will go and look for that book now. Thanks for sharing.

“Slow-jogging for sure is not something people brag about doing.” 😂 True! I was “that girl” in P.E. class who couldn’t run the mile (largely because no one taught me how to run) and was embarrassed my whole life that I couldn’t run until I discovered slow-jogging. I tried it and… I could slow jog! Nice presentation here, encouraging to hear your thoughts on the benefits. If anyone teases me, I’ll send them here. 😅

interestingly, we've known this since the 90's. In Exercise Physiology we studied this along with the rise in understanding of LDL Cholesterols. 60% of max heart rate for more than 20 minutes, 3 times a week is ideal. Make sure to stretch, gain some range of motion beyond the required to prevent injuries. I've been a physical therapist now for 31 years.

I’ve been doing this for some years. I started for 2 reasons; one was barefoot running the other was a famous bodybuilder and trainer who always said, “ slow jogging burns fat and fast running burns carbs!” ( Mike Mentzer) He passed 20+ years ago. Now I do sprints and kickboxing occasionally to maintain my fast twitch muscle. I can’t prove this; but I feel that we slow down as we age due to a lack of fast twitch muscle. I turn 50 in March.

@@jopalo31675 Hail the fellow barefoot jogger! Wonder how many of us are out there 😜. Actually what some research shows is that the occasional burst of fast sprint/whatever causes your body to realise it needs more energy and it starts destroying faulty mitochondria and producing new ones. It's very SciFi.
