In my opinion, Splash Mountain wasn't what "ended" America Sings. Charming though it was, the attraction had become dated, with the most "modern" piece of music being the version of "Joy to the World" made popular by 70's group 3 Dog Night. Contemporary music was constantly changing, and by 1987, young children were probably starting to wonder why the show ended without including any popular songs from the 80's. Disneyland could have updated the show to include disco, rap and hip-hop -- but I'm so, SO glad that they didn't do this! While I was admittedly saddened when "America" closed down in 1988, it was a delight to see most of the characters incorporated into Splash Mountain. It was like getting to see a lot of old friends all over again, and while the original show was over, at least the "players" in that show looked like they were enjoying their "retirement" in the (mostly) idyllic Splash Mountain setting. So yeah, Splash Mountain wasn't an ending, but rather a second life for the America Sings animatronics, and I'm grateful that it lasted as long as it did. (Plus, it still lives on in Tokyo, yay!)

@@retrospectrumalso America sings was built specifically for the USA’s bicentennial. It was never meant to be stay in the Tomorrowland theater as a permanent fixture and by 1987 the bicentennial had already been a decade. Tony Baxter the imagineer behind splash mountain said the American Sings was planned to be closed anyway even if splash mountain was never built as splash mountain was the solution to reuse the animatronics after closing America Sings.

I always thought America Sings was a terrible fit for Tomorrowland. It was mostly about the past, so it just felt out of place next to Mission to Mars and Space Mountain. That being said, it was still one of my favorite attractions. As a kid, I loved the weasel. I think I need to check KZitem and see if I can find a video of the entire show. I know VHS was common enough by 1988 that someone must have filmed the show.

You know what, depending on how the new Country Bears revamp is received by guests, you might have a really good point here. Word of mouth for the bears so far has been fairly good, with a lot of people in comments sections saying that the show still retains the humour. I've had a listen to a few povs of it and even i'm excited by it. So I'm wondering if this could reopen the way for America Sings.

I'm so sick about people fighting about the ride. Sure I was sad too but like after awhile you move on. Some of these people haven't and it's honestly kinda... weird. Like some people act as if their family member had died. If you are gonna be THAT mad about it. Go to Japan. The characters are pretty popular there. Also kinda annoyed that people think Splash is gone forever when it's in Japan. I appreciate this video and I just love those animatronics and the most thing I was sad about is how most of them probably got destroyed but it's probably because they where unusable. I mean, tbh I didn't really care for Splash Mountain that much to begin with nor the Song of the South movie that it was based on, not becasue of the "stereotypes" and all since I don't care for that much? but I guess it's because I always thought of it as "inferior" compared to my other favorite Disney classics like Winnie the Pooh and The Fox & The Hound lol.
