What’s the main reason for split boards?
@rei
4 жыл бұрын
Great question, Steve! They are a boon for backcountry adventures. Splitboards allow for floatation in powder snow when ascending up a mountain (when you attach climbing skins to them. The skins provide uphill traction). Additionally splitboards weigh less than a snowboard and provide a fun way to glide back down the mountain you've hiked up.

The main reason for splitboards is to venture into the backcountry. Areas in the mountains where you are not able to reach via chairlifts.
@panterita1177
3 жыл бұрын
I think the main reason, for me, is so you can skin up a mountain when you are not a skier. That’s why I am looking into them now, I don’t like hiking up with the boots alone, you sink in the snow and is so much more work. Some times pretty painful. I have seen people putting snowshoes over the boots to hike up and carry the board on their backs. Then you have to strap those snowshoes in the backpack somehow to snowboard down.

I snowboard now for 20years Dont buy splitboard if you not live in location with lot of unacesible bc locations ! Waste of money. Splitboard is crapy snowboard ( too heavy and hard ), its only usable in powder ! Splitboard is also very crapy when it comes to the skiing attributes. If you want to board in bc get a snowshoes. Fits in the backpack, cost nothing. When you walk uphill you are faster than the splitboarders and you can reach higher slopes/rocks etc. ) If you want to unacesible bc get a ski with CC bidnings/boots or heli. ( hard to say for me, but its true )

I was wondering why anyone doing this sort of boarding wouldn't just have snow shoes. Things this complex always have performance, time, and reliability compromises. I'm sure those little clips never ice up or break.
