Our gut is one of the main defense barriers for infections and toxins as these are in our foods. Gut health is essential for proper digestion and absorption of nutrients from food. Stress can be damaging to the gut causing inflammation and leaky gut, which will be the start of chronic diseases due to bacteria and toxins entering the bloodstream. Great and useful information! Thank you Dr. Mark!❤👍

The current body of research may not include studies in which psychological stress is the causative agent of ulcers and this doesn't mean psychological stress doesn't cause ulcers either directly or indirectly. I was 15 years old when I was diagnosed with a duodenal ulcer. My hx included a handful of colds and 3 bouts of the flu. I had taken antibiotics 3x, my H. Pylori tests were negative, my diet didn't include processed foods, refined sugar or carbonation and I was physically active 60+ min/day 6 days a week. Because I was physically and emotionally abused by my female parent beginning when I was 6 years old I lived in a chronic state of fear & stress that caused me to vomit 3-4 days/wk. The stress came first and the ulcer followed. What's more, another family member living in the same household was diagnosed with a peptic ulcer. His H. pylori test was negative and he didn't vomit until 10 years after he had been diagnosed. In both cases the psychological stress occurred before signs & symptoms and the diagnosis followed years later.
