Most of the audio are tracks. There is almost nothing being played live. The Who only had live guitar and vocals. Bruno’s drums were live for his solo. Flea didn’t even plug his bass in for the Super Bowl Show.
@silvermineband2719

As someone who has been on Super Bowl host committees and attended production meetings in the past, you are very correct. Admittedly it’s been years ago, but the rule of thumb was lead vocals and lead guitar were live, EVERYTHING ELSE TRACKS. I’m sure there have been exceptions (Bruno is an excellent example), but the logistics of a pop up concert and the massive worldwide audience means unnecessary risks are to be avoided. Fortunately for them, pop music is already laden with tracks so the adjustments are minimal for the performers. RHCP took some heat as if somehow THEY were the ones running a scam when in actuality, they were playfully revealing the sham. Props to RHCP.

This is actually a very interesting video. Our pursuit to super-duper 8K 3D full immersion of sound and video must be a problem for the people in charge of the music. I would think in the beginning, drummers just needed the extra gear for triggering stuff from the record, but I am starting to think it's *VERYYY* loud in the stadium and getting a 99% studio-like live sound is beyond theoretical physics and mathematics. Anyways, who wouldn't like to add gear to their kit?! Especially when companies are giving them to you for free! Thanks Justin!

I recently got to see The Who in Tampa FL, (with the full orchestra I may add!) of featuring Zak Starkey on drums. He was playing the same DW conversion kit featured in this installment of 65 Drums. Calling this kit visually spectacular is an Understatement... ESPECIALLY when they're hit with stadium lights! Other than a couple of small audio issues (the cymbal volume could've been kicked up a notch) the sound quality was amazing! FOOTNOTE: this was the infamous show where Roger Daltrey pitched a fit and stopped the show mid song because of an ear bug monitor issue. Apparently he was only able to hear 1 instrument through his ear buds. Yep, it was Zaks drums!

They sound amazing even live, but not as fun to play with mesh heads. Missing that raw drum sound you can only feel and hear behind the kit. Still love them but I prefer to play hybrid acoustic/electric live

A lot of live engineers are using triggers for gating tho. Not saying it wasn't used to trigger a sample (whether it's for layering sound or full replacement for live or post.) But when you see a trigger it doesn't always have to be sample related for people whom might not know. Cool video tho, great that the big guys are starting to use electronics more and more.

Just so you know nothing is live at the super bowl besides lead vocals and key solo elements. The band records the songs in a rehearsal. Those are mixed and the tracks are played back. Almost nobody plays live because the changeover time does not allow for that to be smooth.

So, does no pro drummer use even a high-end Alesis Strike SE kit at big gigs? I've never seen "serious" drummers using full e-kits in the wild. Why is this?
@trevorwoodley3897
3 ай бұрын
I keep asking the same question! Who’s buying all these electronic kits from all these different manufacturers? Clearly there is demand. And Roland , Alesis, Pearl, DW, Yamaha go to all that trouble to make kits almost indistinguishable from acoustics, yet you never see a VAD, Strike, DTX or Mimic kit on a stage anywhere. Weird. Why is this? And they’re pricey too.

Yo man, could you make a video about stacking metal cymbals on top of rubber E cymbals? DonutDrums did this in his video "ULTIMATE ELECTRIC DRUM SET part 2". It seems like a really cool idea, and i want to try it but im not shure if it will work. I dont have any metal cymbals and I dont know if I should buy them to try this. I cant find anything about it on the internet. It would be awesome if you could make a video about it or just share your expirience about it here. Does it still trigger, do you keep 3 zones on your cymbal?

This really has nothing to do with the superbowl. Its more oriented around drummers who use edrums and whether they where using them when they appeared at the superbowl. The connection is specifically related to the drummers who appeared at the superbowl and whether they use edrums as apposed to "how drummers used edrums at the superbowl"

Bro, drum companies mail ME free drumsets (and I don't even have a hundred thousand subscribers). Imagine what they do for artists that have millions of fans. Endorsements totally are a thing. You have to sign stuff and whatever, but I will not take back my statement that artists get stuff for free.
