One bad experience was all it took for my anxiety to keep me away from dental visits. I feel very fortunate I found a great dentist that took care of the fillings, root canal and crown. I actually enjoy going to the dentist, and now the orthodontist. I'm a few months away from being done with my invisilign treatment, and am not ashamed of my smile anymore. I even bought lipstick, for the first time ever. I'm 37 😊

Was visiting a friend in Mexicali. Decided to try out a dentist as several Vegas dentists quoted me $700+ for a "deep cleaning." Walked into Dentist office in Mexicali, super clean, professional, and charged me 60 for a cleaning. The hygienist was diligent and considerate of my pain tolerance. He did a fantastic job. He did exactly as shown in this video.

@ninjaturtle293
3 жыл бұрын
Okay so I've just taken my deep cleaning/scaling today. And for those who're kind of nervous/anxious about what might happen during the cleaning (just like me before going on a dental clinic), relax. You can tell the dentist whether you're anxious or not. Also, just don't overthink cause everything's going to be fine (I swear). Act as if it's your regular dental routine. They're just going to show you the case of your teeth and a little bit of chitchats about it, and the cleaning starts. Does scaling hurts? No. As for my case who has a heavy dental calculus, it doesn't hurt even though I was not given with anesthesia. The noise of the ultrasonic scaler and the water being sprayed were just the two things that might make you feel uncomfortable. So if you're anxious yet conscious about your teeth, go and booked for an appointment. The longer your case stays as it is, the pricier it was 😂 Everything's going to be fine. I assure you that 😉

@@ProdTWIN There can be many factors. So every dentist you had seen so far had heavy hands during your dental hygiene appointment? Do you have heavy accumulation of tartar buildup between visits? How often do you go in for your recall visits? Every 6 months? How is your oral hygiene? Are you consistent with brushing and flossing daily? Is your Dentist or Hygienist using a ultrasonic scaler ( water scaler) or regular hand scaling? If you have heavy buildup and tartar between and along your teeth, heavier pressure is needed to remove it, especially if the specialist is limited with hand scalers and the water scaler is not available. Other reason can be the specialist themselves. Some people are more heavy handed. Also every person is different as far as biology goes. Some folks develop tartar or buildup at a much faster rate. And the buildup itself can vary in density. I would recommend request seeing a dental hygienist for your next dental hygiene appointment. Don't be afraid to ask your dentist / hygienist why are the hands so heavy when cleaning and scaling your teeth? They will be happy to explain to you why. Communicate with your Dentist or Dental Hygienist so you can have a better experience.

Just a couple of days ago I went to the dentist for a cleaning for the first time in three years. When I was younger, I had so many bad experiences with this one dentist, that for a while I felt no motivation to keep up with my oral hygiene. I had extreme anxiety when my mom made me go. I also was never informed why I need to brush and floss and what the long and short term benefits are. A little while ago I kind of educated myself on all of this and now I’m flossing once a day and brushing at least twice a day and if I’m home, after meals. When I went to the dentist a couple days ago, it was a different one. This experience was much more positive and pain free and I actually can’t wait to go back for some reason. The hygienist was so sweet and keeping a conversation with my mom and I the whole time. The cleaning, for the first time since I was like 7 was completely painless and almost relaxing in a way. All the troubles with pain and gagging that I used to have at cleaning’s and x rays were gone! The dentist was very kind and cracked a few jokes and explained what he was doing before doing it, which is one of the things my previous dentist lacked and now I appreciate it a lot when they take that effort. Unfortunately, all that time that I wasn’t properly taking care of my teeth caused quite a few cavities and a broken down tooth that might need a root canal. At this point, I don’t really mind having to go back to the dentist to get this done, because of the positive experience I just had, but I also feel guilty for letting it get this bad in the first place. I avoided telling my parents when I had pain a long time ago, to avoid going back to my old dentist and the pain went away, but now the tooth is broken down. I’m still young yet I need to get all this work done and I feel guilty about that. When I wasn’t taking care of my teeth, I thought to myself that there was no point because either way id freak out the next time I went to the dentist because of some bad news he would say that was never true.

I would love to see a video on suctioning techniques! I am in hygiene school and I struggle so much with suctioning that I usually just have the patient hold it, I will clean a few teeth with the cavitron, and then I will back off so they can suction. I cannot figure out how to hold it to retract, or how to hang it in the patients mouth. Help!!
@Daniel-zr7ll
4 жыл бұрын
parksrecsuperfan I’m a hygiene student myself ! For some surface toward (e.g. buccal of quad 1 and 4) I use the suction to retract instead of my mirror. For anteriors (e.g. mandible) I place the suction in the vestibule to retract the lip in the 12 o’clock position if that helps
@pw9855

I use a high speed evacuation (HVE) when I use sonic scaler. I use it to retract the cheek and that way the patient is not drowned and reduces aerosols

parksrecsuperfan I am an rdh of ten years and always have the patient hold it. Absolutely nothing wrong with that! I find it easier and the patient likes to be in control. Have you tried a purevac?
@parksrecsuperfan
4 жыл бұрын
Afton Bernard that makes me feel a lot better! I think I am wary of it because my hygienists have never used a cavitron on me so I just feel like I’m making the patient work haha. And no I haven’t even heard of that!

parksrecsuperfan I recently started at a new office after ten years at another. At the new place, none of the five other rdhs have their patients hold it. So it’s new for the patients. I give clear instructions and they figure it out pretty quickly. The purevac is an hve that is so light the rdh can hold. It also has a mirror on the end. I use it when I prophy jet and never need an rda anymore. It’s also great for the elderly who struggle with the suction themselves

This is totally interesting. I have always been used to getting teeth scaling (never knew technical term) during my routine dental exam from my dental visits in Cleveland, OH; but since being in Houston, two dental offices that I have visited, both wanted to change hundreds of dollars for teeth scaling, and refuse to do any general cleaning. I guess each dental practice is different. It is also ironic that both of these dental offices did not automatically provide with toothbrush at the end of my visit. The first one I did not realize until I got home. The other, I had to ask for toothbrush.

When you’re doing this procedure, would you know right away if someone needs a deep cleaning vs a regular cleaning? I just went today for a cleaning and it was really quick and there weren’t many issues. I admit I haven’t been to the dentist for 10 years regarding a professional cleaning. That’s why I was surprised to be in and out so quickly. I was expecting a deep below the gum cleaning. My teeth feel cleaner but not like how I remember. I’m still concerned about my gums. Some people have told me hygienists will only see what needs to be cleaned above the gumline. Who do I go to for a real deep below the gum line cleaning? I don’t want to end up with a more serious gingivitis or even periodontitis just because I wasn’t properly taken care of
@TeethTalk
4 жыл бұрын
thank you for watching! X-rays and Perio charting is what determines whether you need a deep cleaning or not. Here a video that should help: teethtalkgirl.com/videos/deep-cleanings?rq=deep%20cleaning
@maxhr1749
Жыл бұрын
Some times we can tell based on visual observation of gingival periodontal pocketing (as we clean), bone loss, recession, root exposure, bleeding, subgingival calculus detection, etc. X-rays and a periodontal exam (perio probing) will support those other factors. If you have gingivitis and no periodontal disease, a good dental cleaning can start you off on your way to optimal dental health, but brushing well especially along the gumline softly yet effectively at least twice a day, flossing using a “c” shape against each tooth surface, and good nutrition help support this. Other factors contribute to gingivitis, and you must speak to a dental professional who knows your history and habits to make a full assessment and give you recommendations based on your needs.

I unfortunately didn’t have the most reliable parents growing up and missed multiple appointments as a child/teen. I then went a couple of times before university and had a negative experience with a dentist. I then stopped going for roughly 8 years. Due to fear of judgement or if the dentist wasn’t very good. In all this time I brushed my teeth 2/3 times a day. I still had a build up of tartar which I had overthought was periodontitis. I finally called the dentist at the age of 30 and luckily got an amazing dentist. All I had to do was have a scale and polish which I had today. There is some discomfort but I’m so glad I’ve had it done! Please just go to the dentist! I wish I had done this years ago!
