@Quasicasihasi There is one footrest on either side of the travel pedals. The "third" pedal on the far right is a straight travel pedal which controls both tracks forwards or back. Great for Mass Excavators when you are constantly tracking backwards while loading trucks.

@Jordan27Wilson Horn is bottom right, top right is idle control (up/down). The slider isn't used for anything. Right stick the bottom button is also for idle and the other two are not used. If you were running shears the left slider would be for rotate and the right would be for open/close.

That's an accessory (factory) which is why I didn't include it. In the 385C LME it's to control both tracks at once. This is useful as you are usually bulking out piles (straight line) so you can just use that pedal to move straight forwards or backwards. On other machines sometimes it's for a thumb and sometimes for a hammer.

When this was made, two years. I also had two years operating forestry (a lot fine control boom work) previous to that.

You should try to always work over your idlers and because of this you have a pretty good idea of which way your tracks are all the time. Otherwise a quick peek down at your tracks before you move lets you know (if you can see the motors you're backwards).

Thank you for posting this video. It is clear and concise, and might only be improved a bit by showing more of the boom and stick when operating.

I play a game called Dig It and the controls are standard just like this. I can do pretty good with an xbox controller using the thumb pads as the joysticks, but ive never had the oppertunity to use an actual excavator (grew up in city). I hope to someday, absolutely love them especially watching guys like this who are so good they can open a soda bottle top with the bucket teeth :)

That's right, you wont be able to see the idlers but you can definately see the motors. If you cant see anything you know you're forward.

On a "John Deere" setup the stick is on the right control and the boom is on the left. There are a bunch of other crazy ones but "Cat" and "John Deere" are the two main patterns.

@brentsmith1988 Well some states now require an operator card, you'll have to do some tests to get that. I always say the best way to learn is to get on as a labourer and slowly learn how things are done and start doing easy jobs with the machine. Another option is union halls do provide training, but there's pros and cons to union.

It isn't called "standard" or "Cat", it's the SAE control setup. The other setup is ISO, that is used on backhoes, and the stick and boom joysticks are reversed, but the swing and bucket curl stay the same.
@wspycher1006

Actually the variation is not just used on backhoes. Some excavators are set up that way. Depending on operator preferences

When the escavator's climbing , is it dangerous if we don't use hand to keep the stick and we only use peddles to climb ? Is the stick still stable ?
@vantagetes
4 жыл бұрын
Ding Dong sometimes if it is steep the tracks do no have enough power or grip and you have to use the stick to help pull the machine up. Also if the machine slides backwards it is good to be able to catch yourself quickly so it is a smart idea to have the stick and bucket on the ground or at least close.

They vary from model to model even in the same brand. I am a big fan of the short fat sticks cat uses in their new hoes vs the old style john deere sticks that are skinny and super long, end up hitting my knees when I curl the bucket!

What type of configuration are you using in the video? ISO or SAE?
@vantagetes

MrJohnweez sorry it took so long to reply, this is SAE. ISO was designed when JD had cabs on the right, as their boom control is on the left hand (hand closest to boom). SAE is boom on right hand (hand closest to boom) as their cabs where on the left such as in the video.
