My understanding is that the bi-directional charger will only be compatible with System Controller 3 and Combiner 5 (and of course IQ8 series micros). People who already have IQ8's would still need to swap their controller and combiner.

This video is (predictably) not very good at providing any useful details. Where are you getting this info from? I'm quite curious to find any details on how this is going to work in practice - and when it's going to be deployed. We have solar panels with IQ8 micros, but no battery. So, on one hand, I'm imagining we can just take the DC power straight from the panels. But then I'm wondering if it will actually convert DC to AC then back to DC to charge the car - then back to AC to send to the home or grid? I mean. I guess that's not unexpected. But I do hope they're taking this silent time to figure out the details and make them no-brainers for idiots such as I.

Everyone should have a 6 Kw solar system on their homes. Along with a 10 KW or more backup system Municipal buildings and commercial buildings should have some 700 KW size systems to help give redundancy to the system. Incorporate smart thermostats and appliances it could be a very cool robust and redundant system. Could also greatly reduce the amount of coal the base load has to use. Which should remain operational while the system gets built out. Should pretty quickly be able to eliminate peaker plants. Or at least any dependency.

My state only has one coal plant and I'm sure it is soon to be retired. I'm not cutting down a 60 foot backyard shade tree because someone thinks I should have an unnecessary component such as solar panels that damage tile roofs such as mine. Expecially since those solar panels were most likely made with coal power to begin with.

@@retiefgregorovich810 No but your neighbors and your local school fire/police could provide power for you. Is there not a section of roof that you could provide power to the grid. Come on now let's think of solutions not headaches. Those two or three neighbors down the road who have sunshine could be buffering what your system lacks. Around $2,000,000 leaves your community a day to provide power Shure would be nice to see that money reinvested in your schools road's and bridges.

Thank you for visiting reneenergy.com youtube channel. A smart and sustainable energy vision with potential benefits, but practical challenges like installation costs and regulatory changes need to be addressed for widespread adoption.

The Enphase Bi-Directional charger isn’t doing anything. It’s marketing vaporware.
