For me the biggest shock in Attack on Titan was that they weren't the last humans on earth but also living in much more modern times than the medieval ones we saw in seasons 1 and 2. That the food in season 4 suggests this is all taking place somehow in our world isn't to unlike Tolkien's stories that suggest they are just past history we don't know about.

I absolutely love these sort of "What is a falcon in the Star Wars universe" situations. I was recently hit by this extremely hard during a rewatch of Thunderbolt Fantasy (set in a mysterious ancient wuxia-ish fantasy world), when a monk character mentioned the Buddha. Now, there can be some hand waves of "the ingredients exist somehow, eventually some cook would put them together that way". Like, maybe there is an alternate universe where potatoes and tomatoes didn't originate on another continent, and therefore didn't require a Columbian Exchange for them to show up in medieval food (made less likely due to Isayama's "flipped globe" world map trick, which reestablishes that continents separated by oceans exist). There are still nevertheless very real world-building questions about how these ingredients must be cultivated in particular climates, and then transported (in a consistent systematic way!) to climates where they do not grow, which therefore implies levels of globalization, immigration, and economic development for certain ingredient combinations to be considered by anyone. Nonetheless, I really appreciated learning the real historical context of those dishes, and the joyful energy of this video in general was so great. The integration of recipes into the greater narrative and all of the jokes and memes made me cackle.

Is this one of the greatest videos ever made on this channel? Is that a rhetorical question? But regardless tremendous work to everyone involved! Looked like a real team effort per the end there, and it came out amazingly!
