Great video, I switched from Loop to iAPS in September this year, the videos on you tube that Magnus and Theresa mentioned and feature in have been of great help. Now i have my settings dialed in correctly, I no longer need to enter false carbs, time in range has improved, less hypos, therefore less psychological burden. Thanks Justin and good luck with iAPS. Thanks Magnus and Theresa.

Omnipod 5 already has looping features built-in. If you want to use iAPS (or Loop) you need Omnipod Eros/Dash or an older Medtronic pump.

Awesomeness. I switched from loop to iAPS 3-6months ago… still don’t understand all the settings… BUT, A1c below 6 and with less attention. Than I normally have to loop. (Which was already miles ahead of my previous “corporate pump system” which was already sooo much better than injections…

Just a note so that people don’t get overexcited about this stuff, when Theresa told the story of the Cinnabon (it’s in one of the loop and learn videos) she showed her graph and her glucose did spike up to about 230 mg/dl. The algorithm did bring her down to normal in a couple of hours but in my opinion the high blood glucose damage was done. So no, you cannot eat junk and have steady normal blood glucose numbers. iAPS can’t do that, no algorithm can. She did admit in that video that her graphs are not pretty (steady) but that she’s willing to live with that.

Good to hear that. Based on how all of the current insulins are absorbed by the body through tissue, I could not believe all of the wild claims. iAPS seems to be a better way of correcting highs. Better compared to how awfully slow the commercial pumps are. Tslim gives 60% of the amount of insulin needed to bring a high down to normal as its automatic correction. Something like that. It only brings you down a little bit, not all the way to normal blood sugar. And iAPS prevents lows by simply not giving insulin until you are already high. And then relying on being really good at correcting highs down to normal. But the guy in this video did claim to have really good time in range. And he does what all controlled diabetics do. Which is give appropriate sized boluses ahead of time and give manual corrections when blood sugars go higher than they should. Its heartening to hear that this iAPS may just be better at bringing highs down faster and maintaining normal levels better when sleeping. A vast improvement over the commercial systems available right now.

Does your pod need to be on the same side of your boy as your Dexcom for this system to work? I am considering a pump for the first time.

For iAPS, no. Each device talks to the phone. For Omnipod 5, yes.

This seems similar to Control IQ on Tandem Pump…but maybe tuned a bit more aggressive. Anyone on that system who has forgotten to bolus knows how long that takes…plus the inability to narrow the target range. Too bad Tandem doesn’t work with this system…it sounds perfect.
@russellseaton2014

Agree. Tandem is sometimes really good at night for me when nothing is supposed to be happening. But gets goofy when eating in the day. It would be nice if Tandem had this iAPS more aggressive approach to bringing down highs and more aggressive at maintaining normal blood sugar levels at night. Tandem needs to be more aggressive at reaching and keeping normal 90-100 blood sugars all of the time.

I would love to try iAPS and Loop for that matter, but the cost is prohibitively expensive. My insurance only covers omnipod 5. Dash pods are $45/pod without insurance. Those of us who aren’t independently wealthy - we ARE still waiting. I think that’s fair to mention when discussing diabetes tech. Yes this is out there, but unless you have the cash available to implement these systems you’re SOL. For those of us who are “cash sensitive” (working, have shelter and food and stuff but no cash) advances in commercially available AID is essential.

Hey everyone. Thank you very much for your work! it's incredible to hear what could be possible. For my part, I just switched back to spraying last week because I was having too many problems with my pump and the sensor. Now I would really like to switch to an IAPs, where do I have to go to get all the information? And are there explanations in German too? Best regards, Paul
