@@PolishGuy tv remotes emit infrared light, if you have 2 spare remotes around you could glue 1 botton on each one pressed down, so they send allwas a signal. Then you can replace the candles with the safer remote alternative.

@WeirdCandycain Actually, they aren't purple either, they are infrared, meaning they are outside of the visual spectrum of light. Red and purple are next to each other on the color wheel, but on the spectrum of light, infrared exists below red and ultraviolet exists above purple. Your camera can translate light that is outside of the normal visual spectrum, but you see it through a filter, which will color correct the light into somewhere around red

the old wiimotes used the ir sensor to track the position of the bar to figure the position. so technically speaking, you _can record video using one of these._

theoretically yes. but it would be difficult. you cant just point the light at the wiimote, the wiimote would have to see the source of the light, and it doesnt have a very large scope

Wow thats extremely impressive. Thats the most informative and well put toghether video I have seen in a long time! Did you use AutoDesk Maya for the animation? I will be displaying a demonstration of Johnny Lees wiimote project to my college sometime in the next two weeks and I would defintely like to feature this video to let everyone understand how the wii remote works.

0:45 I'd say the most coveted chip is the IR camera sensor at the end. You can ONLY get them from scrapped wiimotes 'cause aren't available "off the shelf"

@foxboy3000 The chip isn't really a mic. I misunderstood a bit of my research. That chip helps to translate the analogue input from a mic and converts it into something that the wii can understand.

I hope the wii mote becomes a permanently supported accessory- even after the consoles are gone, it works great as a mouse controller for pc and if software is provided could do even more. i guess other parties might make em. including nun-chuck of course.

There's something called PlayStation Move that is basically like a Wii remote, except that instead of an infrared sensor, it has this huge squishy glowing orb on top. I think it looks pretty weird.

@joenkike2006 No you can't, as the Wiimote uses infrared LEDs. Candles don't send out infrared light, but any kind of light that does send this out would indeed confuse the mote.

yea, there should be a little red button in the door on the front of the console and inside the wiimote battery cover. they let you sync up your controller to the wii

The 'data converter' chip at 0:55 seems to be a voltage regulator chip. It is NOT an accelerometer to Bluetooth converter chip as mentioned.

@abdulz1 you could connect it yes, but it wouldn't work. without the sensor bar to use as a reference point, the cursor wont know where to go. the buttons and the accelerometer would work though

@abdulz1 Then yes, that should work. But if you're going to hack the wiimote to be used on your computer, you could probably hook a battery up to the sensor bar wire and just use that. Also, you can buy wireless sensor bars

@mickieftw You have to do a special thing. If you mean you lost your other wiimote, you can still play 2player. You just cant both people play at the same time. Now im going to let you figure out how to do it.

@Megadoomable If the wii remote was upside down the force it would register would be upwards, relatively. Remember, it compares the direction of the forces applied to the controller. Its not just a vertical line, its a vector pointing down. (I guess I probably should have made the lines arrows instead of dotted lines.

only pitch and bank. with the new motion plus it can detect rotational motion almost perfectly. because changing the yaw doesnt change how the wiimote interacts with the vertical forces applied to it by gravity, it cannot.
