@@limitedbom2206 Glad you commented on a video and my comment that you disagree with. And make no bones about it, I didn’t say anybody is out to get us or anyone. It’s about neglect. See someone like you who perhaps is American will not have a problem with globalization or immigration but will have a problem with illegal immigration politically in the country. Which basically is the same tactic and procedure because baseball imitates life. It’s all about cheap labor. Someone like yourself wants to bring up the 2020s’ but ignore 1982 and before. You want to start in the present day instead of stepping back into history. But when it’s any other topic you’re willing to back into history to understand things better. While, MLB has been trying to get more blacks involved using RBI (Reviving Baseball Inner Cities). However baseball is a game where you need land, and space like in rural areas. Because there are wild throws, foul balls and mistakes that happen. The problem with baseball and inner cities don’t mix. But this is where many blacks were relegated to after the great migration especially after the factory jobs dried out and corporations took their jobs overseas for cheap labor In the 20th century when you consider the negative impact of redling, blockbusting, the housing covenants, homes being destroyed due to the highway commission act of 1956 (it gutted black communities). On the contrary, consider the suburbs being created after the second world war that helped many white communities. So this external stimulus (which sustains poverty) impacted schools, zoning, healthcare, arts and yes, even Baseball. Understanding this prolonged exposure to poverty, baseball and other activities that blacks used to do when there was more space and room to make mistakes. Those traditions and skills used to be passed down. Today baseball is viewed as a suburban sport like soccer. But in the suburbs with Perfect Game, little League and other leagues, more money and community, financial support is provided. I know I was one of the few blacks living in a suburban community in the 1980’s playing in these leagues. There is space for multiple fields, multiple batting cages, lights for night games, volunteers, safe communities and great sponsors. You won’t get this in the inner cities. Again, players of old like Aaron, Mays, Banks, Frank Robinson, McCovey, Billy Williams, Brock they had rural areas growing up playing on a field or farm. That’s the ideal environment for baseball. Like Mantle growing up on a farm. But the outside (external) stimulus that impacted black families' environment (due to racism) along with the lack of personal responsibility has created a lack of black americans in baseball. Also some zoning laws don’t allow for an inner city black community to get a little league charter, it’s like the zoning laws for schools that get manipulated. So they are not being developed like the other youth. They are athletes, but baseball is a different type of sport to play). It’s really not about the money, because poor people in Latin America play and love the game with lack of resources, but they have enough space and area to play. All Justice was talking about was to use the same energy (resources) that you do down there in Latin America, but do it for the actual American’s in this country. Again black americans were the ones responsible for integrating the game in the first place. So just like immigration has been used to replace the black after the civil war (Irish, Germans, italians), history occurred again after the civil rights act (hispanics). The same tactic was done in baseball, let's replace the black americans with the cheap labor we get from players in DR, PR, Ven, Cuba.
@limitedbom2206

@@flame-sky7148 my comment was referring to the decline in black American players in todays mlb. I don’t think the availability is the issue, I don’t think there some import of cheap players that teams are searching for to replace black players, I think the main factor is the interest in baseball is at an all time low. That’s not just for black Americans, I’d say that’s a cultural shift. Baseball attendance, tv viewership, everything is declining in the American baseball market. If you want to feel like it’s because a bunch of oppressive issues or some outside force is blocking the opportunities to play, then I’m not sure what to tell you because I don’t think there’s anything I could say to change that. I’m not from a city so I’m not going to pretend like I know what it’s like there, but I just think the general interest in baseball has been way down now and it’s shifted to football, basketball, and now soccer too. That’s just my opinion, if you disagree that’s fine but that’s just what I’ve noticed because the number of local baseball teams and interest where I’m from has decreased a lot and it seems to be the case in a lot of places.
@flame-sky7148
3 ай бұрын
@@limitedbom2206 Oh I do know that its a lack of interest, and that's PART of the issue. Also I know you are referring to today, of course, of course you're talking about today, today. You don't want to talk about the past (oppressive issues), that impacts to day in away more important things other than sport, of course. And of course, you "don't think." Players in latin america are being drafted. They are being signed as free agents for a few thousand of dollars and this has been going on for decades. Unlike the Japanese players (model minorities) who are paid millions just to get contracts negotiated from an Asian club including a hefty salary. MLB has had facilities in the DR since the 1980's for over forty years, therefore you are seeing the product of player development that takes over a decade, you're going to see an increase. So stop with the no cheap labor argument. Now if MLB had placed those facilities (like Justice mentioned ) in the black community along with schools instead of gun. store, liquor store, gun store..... you may get more of an interest or outcome. Again it's not "someone going out to get them" anymore, it's neglect. Neglect is just as bad. Baseball's interest has decreased nationally because it didn't invest in the grassroots. The NFL has a connection with college football and high school football. You can follow the players from each stage. With football there is a investment in the grassroots or poor people in this country. But in baseball, I don't see a lack of interest in the suburbs, I see involvement, because there are fields and facilities. It's a bad look if you facilities in the DR (foreign country) from each MLB team signing kids at 15,16,17 years of age from the 1980's vs. no facilities within your own country. Yea, I will disagree with you to the very end.
@flame-sky7148
3 ай бұрын
@@limitedbom2206 Of course you are referring to blacks in MLB today, of course. So as usual, you don’t want to hear about or discuss the past. And correct, there is a lack of interest in baseball in general. The reason why I disagree with you is that I can look at the past, say like the 80’s and understand why it resonates to “today.” We understand the quota system that was put into place in 1982 that was mentioned in this video. And this was around the same time that MLB started putting facilities and academies in the Dominican Republic, the 1980’s. So this has been going on for over 40 years. They sign these guys at the age of 16,17… as free agents, meanwhile when they want a player from Japan to come to the USA, they have to spend tens of millions just to negotiate a contract, including giving them a premium salary. So it is cheap labor when you consider what they sign the players in latin america as free agents for a few thousand dollars. This has been thoroughly covered in many documentaries and is documented. But I don't see a lack of interest in the suburbs, I see involvement and facilities (little leagues, Perfect Game, Legion ect). There is more land and space. Like Mr. Justice was talking about , if they can have facilities in the DR with fields and schools outside of the country, well then they could have done the same for the individuals within this country (but they won't). It’s okay for people from other countries to get a hand out. And this is where I disagree with you, because I am willing to discuss history, while you just want to talk about today. But let it be another topic of something that you agree on, and you’ll be willing to go over the history and not be so focused on “today.” And yes, it’s been a cultural shift in many things because of what is promoted and adapted amongst black people. For instance there is a street culture with many things. In the 1940’s-50’s jazz music was the thing, and now it has shifted for a while it's been hip hop. Look at its promotion on billboards, commercials radio. I feel football is promoted more, plus there is a connection from college to the NFL.

I grew up in NYC from the 1965 to 1983 before leaving to attend college from 1983-1987, but as the 80's began to roll in, Blacks began focusing more on basketball and football, because the fable of "going to the pros" was more obtainable. When it came to baseball, it was clear from the rip you would have to work your way through the minor league system, and even if you had the talent, you might find yourself stuck in Triple A due to the talent already on an MLB team. So Black parents (mostly mothers) pushed their sons into playing football and basketball, notably with the city and private donations having long dried up to fund baseball teams for the many NYC housing projects. The reality is for most Hispanic youths in these 3rd World Countries, if they are looking for a way out for them and their family, they have a choice of soccer or baseball (notwithstanding boxing); not basketball nor football. And for a number of HBCUs, the only way they are able to field a team is by recruiting non-Black players. So, I know baseball. You clowns keep talking about "must invest in baseball" when it's stupid to throw money at something that will not get a return on its investment. Black churches have no problem fielding basketball teams, because they know they will have a sizeable turnout. Baseball fields that were not being used have eventually been purchased by builders, and the land around it have been turned into commercial property or housing which generates revenue for the city and or county. That's not the NBA, the NFL, nor the MLB's job to invest in grassroots efforts to get more Blacks into the sport; it's the job of the community to do the investment. You clowns are doing all of this crying, but I've yet read any of you all pledge $50k to a local predominately Black high school or HBCU in you all's areas to help support their baseball programs. All American players are subject to the draft. Foreign players are not. The Dominican players that a team has in their academy would eventually get into their farm system if they are good enough. The Yankees are not going to build an academy in the US to train players who could get drafted by the Red Sox or Mets.

I am not black American but was born in the USA to Caribbean parents. I’ve noticed the replacement of FBA in just about every realm whether sports , actors (British blacks) are replacing black Americans. My heart goes out to FBA as you guys have always showed love after a being bullied. It was like right of passage . I have noticed in the northeast the work ethic of black Americans is nothing to be desired and like all Americans people complain about everything. We are now in a global economy and everything is intertwined. I hope you guys get back to take what is owed to you. I will stand by and fight for your rights . I remember a black friend taught me to love the game back in my childhood early 80s. Now my kids have returned to my cultural sport soccer ⚽️. I have to say USA is the place to get money and leave or come on vacation. I am sure you guys don’t have that option

The Argument is weak. There are already pipelines in America via little league, elementary /high school baseball ,minor leagues, college ball etc . Baseball is just not as appealing to Black youth anymore, compared to Basketball, NFL. The same argument with Boxing, the youth is not as interested anymore. Attention span has something to do with it also, the game is slow and strategic. Same issue with Soccer in America. Unfortunately many want instant gratification in the form of constant scoring, constant "big plays" and defense and don`t want to see a pitching duel for 10 innings or a 90 minute plus overtime soccer game in America. These are some of the true issues. Everything is not a race conspiracy.

The reason MLB is in the Dominican Republic is simple, they can develop a superior athlete who will be ready to play sooner rather than later. Steroid use is legal in the DR. MLB won't build baseball academies in Puerto Rico, a US Territory, because the US Federal would investigate. MLB won't build badeball academies in Cuba because the government is Communist. This is why the majority of baseball players who are getting busted for steroid use mostly come from the DR. MLB is conveniently looking the other way. They will never build academies in the US nor target African Americans. This is more about making as much money as quickly as possible.

The real reason black Americans aren't playing baseball is because of the expenses of travel leagues and the path to the Majors is way longer than the NFL/NBA. To make real money after graduating HS, you have to put in time in the Minor League system and then the MLB, even if you are the most talented. Most HS kids start off at either Single A or AA which is still 3 and 2 steps from MLB baseball. Then if you make a MLB roster, you're locked in for 6 years at $740k per year. After 3 years, if you're putting up numbers in the MLB you can go to arbitration to get paid more for the next 3 years. Typically a talented football/basketball players outta HS has to play 3 or 2 years, respectively, in their college sport to then get drafted where they'll get paid decently off a rookie contract. And this is all w/o NIL and advertisement money that are more available to NFL/NBA players...

the reason why they're building facilities in venezuela, puerto rico, dominican republic, is because Hispanic or Latin American players (whatever shade of color they're) are talented just like Black and White American baseball players, that's the reason. now, regarding what Terence Moore said that MLB was trying to fade out African Americans from baseball, that's wrong.

If you are going to list the black players that MLB has forgotten about then don't forget Pete Rose, Mark Mcguire, Roger Clements, and other great black players who have been banned. And just for the record MLB didn't get rid of black players. Black youth don't want to work that hard to get to the Majors. Black youth would rather play football or basketball. Black you don't ride the bus in the minors. you don't see the glitz like you do in gangs or rap. Have you ever wondered why America never has a black long distance runner in the Olympics. Too much work for too little money. You cannot tell me there are no black long distance runners who can do as good as these white runners. So cut the BS. Major League Baseball spends more money on inner city leagues than the NFL does football leagues. Park Leagues, Pee Wee Leagues, City Leagues, Minor Leagues. The reason more players come from the Dominican Republic is because the kids there start playing baseball at 5 years old and stick with it. At 5 years old an inner city black kid has a football and a nerf basketball hoop in his living room.

A game ensued and a young kid from my building was playing and he was African American, and he was the only black kid playing among a group of latino kids. And a step further you cant sit in your driveway or put up a rim on the side of the street and practice your jump shot. The time and equipment it takes to better your skills at baseball takes resources and a lot of time. Then with the advent of aau sports it has become super expensive to play baseball as a youth. This comes from a person that loved baseball until i got to high-school and couldnt hit the ball, then came football and track. I still love a good pitchers dual though.

I think it comes down to us being priced out. My dad said that the neighborhood rec center that he used to go to as a kid would provide bats, gloves, helmets, and a field to play ball on. We don’t really see that in the inner city anymore. And for those black kids who decide to try and pursue it it’s not just the equipment which already cost a lot but travel ball, hotels, flights, etc. I think this combined with kids from our community looking at basketball and football as being easier and for some more fun to play has contributed to the ones who are good at the game and probably could go places as a baseball player choosing the pill or the rock.

Because inner city leagues are plagued with gangs and theft. Park cannot keep baseball equipment, or ping pong tables with paddles because they get ripped off. That is not being priced out. That is not the white man holding you down. But if you play baseball in high school you do not need travel money or equipment (except for a glove) You need your own glove but you can always use a bat and there is always a ball. The players you are talking about that play travel ball are so good people sponsor them. Does not matter race. Do you think there are poor white kids that make it to the major leagues. I bet there are. Quit telling young black people what they can't do and tell them what they should try to do

All the “unwritten rules” and “learning to respect the game” get old after awhile and drive kids away meanwhile they see CJ Stroud hit his “Squabble” in the endzone with his teammates or see Steph shimmying on defenses after hitting 3s on the court. They are just now starting to let players breathe a little bit when it comes to showing emotion but will it get black kids back into the game? Idk hopefully it does. But ignoring what David Justice said to Keyshawn Johnson about scouts keeping black players to a minimum in their league is ignorant. They were scared of us and banned us for our talent. "They made hockey and golf expensive to get into"? I played Ice and roller hockey from 12-14, then again picked it back up my sophomore year of college, then off and on till I was 50 years of age (I'm now 59). What Blacks don't hear are the stories from White players up in Canada and the Northen US states where their fathers worked double shifts, or their mothers worked double shifts and did without certain things all for the sake of their child or children to play ice hockey. Not only are the equipment expensive, but you're also dealing with specialized equipment from head to toe, and the facilities have their own expenses occurred keeping the facility in at least decent order. Not that many Blacks have heard of ice facilities causing injury to players due to boards not being in place properly, chicken wire and nets being used as substitute for glass above the boards, or carbon dioxide poising due to shabby ventilation systems because owners were cutting cost. Very few of the male and female players in professional golf came from rich or well to do backgrounds. Far too many came from average working households, and their parent(s) found ways to pay towards used equipment, the lessons, and the tournament entry fees. Negro, there is a world outside of Blackistan.
