I had to do this to my 2001 Ford Focus last year. The Ford dealership shop wanted to charge me $1000 because they lied and said the PS pump was shot and the lines needed to be replaced. After saying no and checking it our myself I found it was that $30 PS switch. I mean, you could actually see the fluid running out the part (I should have checked it out first but the car is 23 years old and I just assumed the worst. I mean after all it is a Ford🙄). A toddler could have figured it out. The Ford dealership didn't even look at my car and told me all that BS thinking I was some schmuck. I reported them to Ford headquarters and disputed the "service fee" they charged me to look at it. Of course I won and my money was refunded. It's been just over 1 year and it's running smooth with no leaks. Don't forget to bleed the air and if your car is older do yourself a favor and put some Bar's Leaks High Mileage Power Steering Repair, 16 oz. The sad thing is that my family had been using that Ford dealership for about 30 years and they pulled that nonsense! Now I wonder how many other times they ripped me off. Sad😢

Unfortunately this is all too common and not limited to Ford dealerships. You should see what Audi and BMW dealers charge for example!!! It's precisely why I started this channel, I was tired of dealership fees. If like me you're a car person and you don't mind working on your cars, these videos should help 👍 Thanks for commenting mate.

As a curious fact, in Focus MK1s with a Zetec engine, there is a high probability that this part will begin to drip water from the windshield channels. This is because these channels are the union of a plastic panel directly with the body without a joint in the middle, so over time that union opens and the water cascades behind the engine in that part. There is also a high possibility that by forcing that sensor to remove it, you will damage the tube connector with the pump, generating a leak further upstream.

Mine still whines after a new PS pump and High Pressure switch. All done by a local mechanic. Didn't whine until a few months after the work was done. Can't figure out whats is causing it to whine?
@Horus_Works
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tony, mine is staring to whine as well!!.. After the fluid went low and I replaced the switch, the whine has been there and getting louder. Have a look at all of your hoses to make sure there are no leaks anywhere... I'm guessing right now until I take a look, but a whine that gradually comes back tells me that air is somehow slowly entering the system. It could be something as small as a hose clamp. Tighten them all down and check for bubbles in the reservoir when you turn the wheel. Failing that maybe my pump is starting to go, or was permanently damaged when the fluid went low. When you replaced your pump, did you put a new one in, or a remanufactured one?

Erik I'm in need of doing a power steering fluid change not that many video's on youtube for Focus only another of your fellow Ozzy's doing one , I was thinking if I was to take the steering pressure switch out and turn my steering do you think it would empty out better than the other Mk1 Focus one where he empties from the top ? I could also replace the switch while i'm at it , Cheers
@Horus_Works
2 жыл бұрын
Hi David, that's an interesting idea... I don't see why you couldn't do it via the pressure switch. I guess the only challenge will be knowing when your fluid is completely replaced. When you pour new fluid into the reservoir bottle, it will drain into the pump and the pressure switch, so everything should be back on tight by then otherwise you will lose your new fluid. My initial thought would be to do it via the PS reservoir tank as it's easier to get to, but I don't see why you couldn't try via the pressure switch instead.
@quotagious
2 жыл бұрын
@@Horus_Works Hi Erik I'll try and read into it a bit more and see what say the Haynes manual say's It was just a idea as I would think you wouldn't get all the old fluid out through the reservoir ? I'll see what I can do and let you know , Cheers
