Tim Duncan definitely top 5 All time, and #1 defensive player all-time. Rings, personal accolades, longevity, played in the strongest western conference ever, and put up all this in the slowest paced era ever, with the least help of anyone else who's name is in the conversation for GOAT. I will definitely give Tim Duncan top 5 all-time, but he's no higher than #4 defensively. 1. Bill Russell 2. Wilt Chamberlain 3. Hakeem 4. Tim Duncan 5. Shaq I can't logically put Tim Duncan over Hakeem. Hakeem actually won the award multiple times and is the, on paper, alltime leader in blocks. Wilt Chamberlain would have the alltime record if the stat was counted. Bill Russell's defense led him to 11 titles, no more needs to be said. Now if we're eliminating eras, not talking all-time, then its: 1.Hakeem 2.Tim Duncan 3. Shaq 4. Deebo 5. Mutumbo

Duncan's scoring during that playoff run is underrated. In a lowing scoring era he put up 28 per game against the Lakers, 28 against Dallas, and 24 against the Nets all on great efficiency. He arguably outplayed Shaq on offense that series and in the '02 series. And of course his defense was all-time stuff.

Shaq said it himself to McGrady's face when the latter said how great Duncan's teammates were and could have been a play off team without him: "they lived off of Mr. Duncan getting doubled. In the 2003 playoffs, Tim Duncan led the Spurs in points, rebounds, assists, and blocks throughout the entire playoffs. I never said Robinson was the same Robinson he was when he was mvp. I said he would probably still be a top 5 center at that time and that he was still an elite defender. That could probably be the weakest era in the center position. He wasn't better than Shaq, Yao Ming, or Ben wallace. Now the next best centers in the league were brad miller, ilgauzkas and Shawn Bradley. You could make a case for robinson being better than those 3. So, yes, Robinson at that moment could very well be a top 5 center in the league, maybe even top 4.

The 1994 Finals featured 2 teams that each had a superstar center and no other superstars, and it went to 7 games. Whether the Rockets won (as they did) or the Knicks won (which they almost did), it would've been a similar 1-superstar formula. The Rockets knew, in fact, how difficult that was, and that's why they added Drexler mid-way through the next year.

I hate to be that guy to mention Lebron but Iverson falls into this category too - but a guy like Lebron receives all the credit in the world for his 2007/2018 finals runs. HIA fans point to them constantly and they should - both were impressive as hell….. but not unheard of. We’ve seen other guys carry subpar teams to the finals and a few guys even won (Duncan 2003/ Hakeem 1994) generally when a team like Bron 2007 & AI 2001 it’s a matter of competition. If you are in an east conference that massively increases your chances of carrying a team to the finals. 1989/1990 MJ won 5 playoff games against the Bad Boys those 2 years playoff series. The Bad Boys only lost 2 games total the other 6 series (that includes 2 NBA finals) so they lost 5 games in 2 series against MJ….. and only 2 games the other 6 series - but because the best team in the league was in the east MJ doesn’t get credit for “carrying his team” even though clearly they were the 2nd best team. Lebron 2007/2018 & Iverson 2001 played in weak eastern conferences and for those teams simply having Lebron/AI was enough to make a finals run. They then played the best team in the league in the finals and were stomped. Duncan 2003 & Hakeem 1994 don’t get nearly enough credit for those rings - complete carry jobs and not only made the finals but win a ring

Should have been willing to acknowledge how great the Spurs were back in the day, instead you were all on top of Kobe or LeBron. But if we follow your narrative we should really be naming Duncan the actual goat. 2 iconic buzzer beaters from Derrick Fisher and Ray Allen were the only thing that stopped Timmy from finishing with 7 rings and 20 years of consecutive playoffs. @@christiansoldier77 when people use the term “HOFers” it screams a lack of context. A player being a hall of famer is a career achievement, it has no bearing on how well a player plays in an individual season. None of the hall of famers you’re referring to were very good at the time. David was washed, Manu and tony clearly weren’t stars yet. That team was Tim Duncan and good role players with Tim doing a ridiculous amount of heavy lifting

@@trevb2311 What is a career if not a collection of individual seasons? They were several very good players on the team at that time plus the team defense. Robinson was not a scorer anymore but still averaged a double double that year and took on the primary defensive roll to free up Duncan so he could score. The reason why they beat the Lakers is because the Lakers had a bad roster in comparison to the Spurs. So it wasn't all just about Duncan

@@christiansoldier77 you have no idea what you’re talking lol. David did NOT average a double double and he did NOT take on the primary defensive role to free up Tim. He was primarily used for defense due to his age and the injuries catching up to him. David didn’t just decide he wasn’t going to be more dynamic on offense, his body wouldn’t allow it. In that playoff run tim outscored his 2nd leading scorer by 10 ppg, he was so relied on that he led the team in assists, dominated the glass and was their most important defensive piece. The offense was one of the worst in the league when tim was on the bench. If you stack up the spurs production with 98% of the teams that have won championships you’ll see a noticeable gap in production. There’s aren’t 10 championship runs in history where a player was that relied on in every aspect of what the team needed as tim was that season

I like NBA, i like your videos, but i did not like the title. Duncan was the important star player, but every other player of the 2003 spurs give his best to help him . Show Respekt to them

They could I have played better but again, TP was a sophomore, manu was a rookie, and David Robinson was in his last year so I don’t hold it against them that they didn’t play well in the playoffs. I just give more credit for Duncan for being able to still lead that team to a chip despite underperforming key players

This video is flawed as hell. He sounds like someone that just barely watched highlights instead of the actual games. The Spurs had a damn near perfect system. The had the best 2 way player in Duncan. A role player in Robinson who just needed to back up Timmy. Bowen was a two way player able to play defense and shoot 3's. Ginobili, Kerr, and Parker just needed to run the floor and make their free throws. Duncan didn't need to do much to carry the team. This is the thing that people Do not understand. Great teams don't consist of just all star line ups. You can have one super star and a line up of useful role players and that'll carry a team just as good as a super team, if not better. Pop understood this very well and was ahead of his time with this knowledge. That's why he was hell bent on getting Duncan. He was the perfect 2 way player.

Ignorant people: Spurs had a perfect system. Timmy is overrated. Shaq: the system was Tim.

Im not even going to watch the whole video. I am simply here to drop a dislike and to say that people REALLY underestimate how important David Robinson was to the Spurs in 1999 and 2003. Welp have a nice life to anybody who fell for this disregard of ' The Admiral's' contribution...

Most of those guys you said were good shooters had a real time actually making them consistently in the playoffs compared to regular season. Defense I can’t complain about from them but that defense was still anchored by TD

That’s for the regular season. I’m saying he carried in the playoffs because everyone except Duncan dropped in production noticeably compared to the regular season.
