TJ Maxx, Ross, DD's etc. Are thriving because of the retail apocalypse. They basically are able to feed off the remains of those closed stores by buying up their inventory for cheap. That is why you'll see so many Hastings and Toys R Us exclusives and craftsman products in those stores.

Angie Haycraft I think I would cry if that were true. It’s stressful enough they push you to finish racks and cages in less then 50 minutes. Mind you it needs to be unpackaged first if it’s the home department. Totes and bins need to be pushed out in 30 minutes again it’s not realistic because somethings still need to be unpackaged and/or sensored maybe even priced! I simultaneously love and hate working here, I always find stuff I want to buy but it is always so busy. I should point out that Toys R' Us had plenty of sales. It had a huge crash during the great recession during which they underwent a leveraged buyout. If it sounds illegal, it's because it should be) While its sales picked up after the recession, it couldn't handle all the debt heaped onto it.

Hi, Marshall’s employee here. I want to clear some misunderstanding. I’ve worked the back room and I’ve never seen the clothing arrive in racks. (That would be amazing). They arrive in boxes, where we than unbox them, sensor them and then put it on a rack. The floor to floor in 24, is misleading because that rarely happens WITH CLOTHING. We sometimes get boxes upon boxes of clothing that needs to be laid, sensored and hung but only two people working in that area and other working on taking out food, seasonal stuff, beauty accessories, etc. ( now that can be taken out within 24 hours). Btw, Marshall’s, TjMaxx ( TkMaxx for our fellow English friends), Homegoods, Sierra Trading are all under the same company. 😊

That is so true! DOOR TO FLOOR Policy is effective. Fashionista Shoppers would come during the week before noon time to see the brand new merchandise rolled out of each store's warehouse. In the USA, There are Marshalls, Home Goods and TJMaxx. I am not familiar with SIERRA. In Canada, there is Winners, Homesense and Marshalls. Europe and Australia has TK Maxx. However, while working at Winners, all merchandise would arrive in boxes on SKIDS or PALLETS. I personally know a BUYER for WINNERS who would go as far as Asia, Europe and other Continents to order merchandise by bulk. Each of the companies on TJX would have ginormous Warehouses which receive all shipments and then portion off which merchandise and quantity that will be delivered to different store branches. The best part of working for TJX is the $10 Discount card that would come every pay slip. On top of that, there are Friends and Family Events that would fall on Black Friday weekend. When we were STORE OF THE QUARTER, all of us had 30% discount instead of just the regular 20% discount. There are perks, but not a lot.

For me, a big part of my movement from retail to online is availability. The items I often need are not available locally. Further, items are often WAY too expensive. A few Dollarstore tools are of sufficient quality they're usable, but so cheap I stock up. Car part stores are really bad with this, costing 1.5-10x what I can get the exact or better part for online in just a couple days, and often they have to order a part in anyways. If local retailers could find a way to increase product availability and lower prices, maybe by changing how stores are setup, then I would buy more things locally.

I’ve been a MarMaxx shopper since the 80s, just after Bamburgers and Macy’s clearance left. It has ALWAYS been a great experience, to the point where, when I now resurface and see what eve Big Lots and Target’s price are climbing to, I feel glad that I’ve been around as a shopper long enough, to have purchased things when the pricing was not on steroids. This is triply so as, many people’s salaries have not risen in 30 years, when one compares it to inflation and what CEOs earn. So, one wonders just where some of these places are going with their pricing. And, I think people are duped to an extent. When Target first came about, one looked at it more as a competitor to Walmart. But, for how the layout is where I live, if I even wanted to buy grapes, I’d leave Target, jump in my car, and drive to Walmart, where I can get many more grapes for a better price and pickup a family size rotisserie chicken, while I’m at it. As per my visit to Target just 2 days ago, after not going for quite some time, I can see that they’ve not only put makeup in the front, moving pet food and supplies to the far back corner, but they’re offering more plant-based alternatives in the food section. For let food, I now just go to a local supermarket or to Walmart then. I’m glad, however, that Target is moving towards plant-based as, that’s the direction I’m heading in also. I’ll also say that, to an extent, the Dollar Tree is eating everyone’s lunch! DTs may be small, sporadically located and many people just won’t shop there, as they fear quality and don’t want to buy goods made in China, but DT is carrying more healthy food alternatives and, as there is a continued economic divide going on, people are often going to be forced to shop at DT. For me, I divide it up. I may buy my steel cut oats at the supermarket, in the more expensive, healthy aisle, but I buy my freeze dried fruit, that goes in my oatmeal, at the DT. I also buy my frozen vegetables and fruit at the DT as, I’m not paying double, unless someone wants to double my salary. In all likelihood, I’m eating better than I used to and like my coworkers, who are buying bacon, egg and cheese on a Kaiser bun, and for much more money, for the privilege of clogging up their arteries. But, back on topic, the MarMaxx stores also do well, just because their prices are better. I’ve been in Ross and Burlington but, often, they just don’t hit the mark the way the MarMaxx stores do, with the exception of HomeSense. Finally went to one and didn’t like it. They missed the mark for me. Maybe if I was looking for carpeting or to decorate my house with an amusement park’s worth of Halloween decorations. 3 customers in the store; 10 people stocking. No wonder.

Wow. This is kinda how I do MY clothes shopping! What didn't get sold for Xmas goes on sale for boxing day (week). And what didn't sell during that period is further discounted in January. That's where you can get some amazing deals on good stuff.

I bought a Erno Lazlo cleansing kit from TJMaxx for $7.99. They were charging nearly thirty dollars for the same kit on Amazon! Even though I have bought clothing online I mostly prefer to buy brick and mortar stores so I can try on the clothes. Going out shopping gets me out of the house and it's a great way to socialize with friends. Plus I love the the treasure hunt aspect of it too.😊

Some stuff I can understand buying online but I love shopping 🛍 when you go out to shop you get it right away and you can try it on, plus you get a mini workout from walking and carrying bags 😅 when you shop online you don’t get it for 2 - 3 days with express shipping ( that cost extra ) I think in the long run shopping in person is better , especially clothes, food, and art supplies, plus anything needed right away. You also don’t have to worry about the mail ( it getting lost, paying for shipping, returns ) plus having malls gives people more jobs. I mean the main problem is how busy everyone is with there jobs and how expensive stuff can get. . . I mean I know you can only get some stuff online. 🤔 but wouldn’t it be healthier to shop in person than holding a phone or tablet for hours. I mean anything with internet connection with out a cord is radiation in the palms of your hands. . Not to mention blue tooth. . . Ear buds with blue tooth are so bad for you. . Radiation right next to your brain. . 😷 Yes stores are closing but that doesn’t mean there gonna close near you. . Most of them are closing in bad areas and making an online option. Plus most of the stores get 20x or more the amount of people around Christmas and Black Friday. . . 😰 Plus the mall is a good place for you and your girl friends, or daughter to hang out and make memories 😅 lol

TJ Maxx does get their merchandise out really quickly, but it requires a lot of work to unload the trucks, sort items, price some items, and sensor. They absolutely do not come on racks and get pushed right on the floor. But they do get trucks super often, everyday during the holidays so they are selling quick and restocking new things every day

Hi, as a TJ Maxx employee, shipments DO NOT come on racks ready for the sales floor. All clothes come in boxes and must be processed (sensor tagged and hangered) then manual put on a rack then ran out to the floor

Not for much longer. Name brands are leaving the TJX stores according to the news. Others may follow due their own issues with supply chain and brands not wanting to tarnish their image and profit margin. I for one have shopped at TJ Maxx and Marshalls for decades. The reason being name brands at discount prices. TJX is tethered to these brands if they go so will the company. Times we live in.

Some will never understand that some of us love the hunt and feel of shopping IN PERSON, ACTUALLY GOING TO STORES. Online shopping is only good for stores not in my local area, or if I'm home sick and CAN'T get out to shop. One big reason online shopping sucks is that pictures online are lacking and either make items look better than they are when you receive them (and have to return), or look worse and I don't order it - then I'll go see the item in the actual store and love it. Now to the feeling - it's not just touching and seeing things and trying things on, it's a social activity too. Most people over 35 who spent their childhood or adolescent years in a mall with friends knows what I mean. Shopping for us is nostalgic too. I, for one pray many stores NEVER close up their brick and mortar stores. Online shopping is like phone sex. Really it's just masturbation and not nearly as fulfilling as if you could touch and feel the person. And it definately doesn't give you the same high as strutting out of a store with something in a pretty bag :)))

I wish the clothes already arrived on racks when we get shipment it’s not that simple it needs to be tagged and sensored before it can go on racks. People arrive as early as 6 am to do this everyday because we get a truck legit everyday except for weekends

I never really shopped at TJmaxx before, but now I love that place! There’s so many beauty products and I buy all my sporty leggings from there. The leggings aren’t always popular brand name, but they fit great, and are actually very soft. So much more cheaper than lululemon!!

T.j.maxx has ok prices *BUT LOOK AT THE ORIGINAL PRICE ON THE MANUFACTURERS TAG* when I worked there a hand full of items where over the manufacturers price. And majority of the towels (and handful of jeans) are irregular cut. Along with this discounted items have usually been there 30 days (yellow used to be 60 or heavily damaged or holiday) and remember almost all the clothing has been on the floor many at some point while in the store and some of there packages have bugs in them so as with ALL NEW CLOTHING I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU WASH THEM ASAP! But TJX companies are one of the better retail stores out there so have fun shopping. P.S. DON'T BLACK FRIDAY SHOP HERE ITS A JOKE WE OPENED EARLY AND SOLD THINGS AT REGULAR PRICE.

Yo I’m just waiting for my freaking local TJMaxx to reopen. It was damaged in a tornado TWO years ago, so they remodeled it and its had a “coming soon” sign up for over 6 months. Ya gurl just wants to buy some clothes without paying a buttload for gas. TJMaxx is the only basic clothing store in my town other than like Walmart.
