Changing stock speakers for aftermarket speakers helps but NOT a lot...they are going to be held back by the crappy stock head unit...I have a 2013 Ford Escape SE 1.6 but with stock system...my driver side tweeter blew and I put in aftermarket $120 Pioneer tweeters in on both sides...I can't even tell the difference from stock (well, yes, but not much)...I'm sure the mids and lows from the side door speakers contribute more to the overall sound but you need to add a aftermarket DSP/amp setup to really take advantage of aftermarket speakers...doing what this gentleman did will certainly help and if it can be done on the cheap, GO FOR IT...you can even make it better down the road...great video Jason!

once again the 7" screen head unit is perfectly fine. the issue is the crappy stock amp. and the stock speakers. that is because you are running the tweeters off of the factory tweeter output. this output should never be used again after an upgrade. using an audiocontrol LC2i or LC6i and an amp will finish up great sound using aftermarket speakers.

That will expose those clips for you so you don't have to be so rough with the rest of the handle and hopefully it won't snap on you. I managed to pop one side off without removing the silver thing.

Actually those inductive low pass filters on the stock door speaker are probably pretty good. I guarantee you the Infinity crossover is just the same thing inside that plastic box. I would have just used the OEM coil on the new door speaker and the appropriate capacitor on the tweeter at the tweeter. (Tweeters often come with one already).
@FatGuyBuilds
6 жыл бұрын
Shawn Barnish definitely not the same filter. I will put 1000$ on the fact.
@PsalmFourteenOne
6 жыл бұрын
Not identical in all ways, but identical in what it does is what I mean. A low pass filter is just an electrical choke. I've wrapped magnetic wire around a bolt to make one in a pinch and it worked well. (Without a calculation, it would require some trial and error). Different values will have different frequency cutoffs. For a tighter cutoff slope "Q" you'd need some series of chokes etc but neither of those speakers use that. They look to just be using a single choke. It does a simple job. It suppresses frequencies above a certain point. Just like a capacitor does a single job when used in series to prevent lower frequencies to the mid or tweeter. You're not going to hear a difference between one or the other. The only difference would be quality and rating differences from a small speaker to a much larger one. The same with a magnetic choke that has such and such mH rating. You're not going to hear any difference. Those passive cross over boxes you got there are just a circuit board with a choke for the low and a capacitor for the high. Sometimes a few more components for quality but usually not enough to hear anything where it would have been a needed upgrade. So in itself, there's nothing wrong with the one on the Ford speaker. It worked. And it could have been used on the new speaker unless maybe the speaker impedance was a lot different (2 rather than 4, etc) but I'm sure that's not the case since it's a swap used on the oem amp.

@@FatGuyBuilds lol. not much difference between capacitors and inductors. though using the ones that came with the speakers is the right thing to do the ones on the factory speaker are just as good. and are matched to the driver. what you have done is just replaced a driver with another driver that isnt matched to the head unit/amp. most arnt capable of running a 3ohm load and you are shortening its life. also should have used a rope seal of butyl rubber below the speaker to attach it to the old speaker ring. drilled and then used screws . hot glue is fine but it will become pliable and sag over time. it will also get hard when cold and come off.

Do the tweeters get enough signal when connected this way? If i'm not mistaken, each output channel is crossed over differently. If you only use the mid woofer as an input, you will get mostly mid range and not much highs if any. I am aware of the fact that this is being routed through the cross over of the component set, but it is still coming from the output of the factory amplifier which is already crossed over ad frequencies specific to the mid range. I could be wrong, but just for verification can you upload a video of the system playing?

Simple, standard. I'd use a line output converter on a back speaker, run a power cable back, ground a wire on a good, clean piece of metal. A remote wire from your fuse box, or a simpler solution is to make the L.O.C. from above be one with a remote output. Then, run power wires and RCAs into it. About $50 in accessories. Now just add an amp, sub and box. Use substantial speaker wire. I've done quite a few setups. I've had a JBL GTI, JL W7, 5 different Kicker L7s, and more. Lots more stereos and amps.

speakers are only as good as the signal they receive. No knock on Ford or Sony, but few car stereos, even the upgraded ones, are made with quality components. The factory Sony speakers are not the same as Sony speakers you buy in the retail store. The cheapest and usually the best upgrade anyone can make to their factory stereo is changing out the speakers (unless you have a B&O or Bermester or something ridiculous like that). I have a 2015 Ford Escape SE (AWD) 1.6 ecoboost, it has a pretty decent sounding OEM system, but I recently purchased some Rockford Fosgate Punch series 6.5" I plan on using in the front doors, which leads me to the question, isn't the bottom section of the front door panels removable? The part wear the door storage compartments are.... mine look like the can be taken apart, basically like the lower 1/3 rd of the door panel, or is that a false line and it just looks that way? My rear doors look the same way.... also, some models have a 8" sub-woofer in the rear side panel. I just bought this Escape about a year ago from my sister, she got a new car every 3 years from her pharmaceutical sales company w/ the option to buy the one you've been driving for the past 3 yrs, which she usually does because the are sold 20%-30% lower than it's blue-book value, and her company pays for everything on the car, all maintenance, makes car get serviced according to factory guidelines in car manual, etc... so it's taken care off, they also pay for her personally gas, oil changes, etc.. if she takes a vacation and uses it .. must be nice!?! Anyway... since I"ve got it it's been a fairly good car, after about adding 22,000 miles to it, I had to change a few sensors, nothing major though >> the fuel pressure sensor (on fuel rail over intake manifold, car has 2), it was like $50+ online, then the EVAP purge solenoid system, about $76.00, and most like I found out it's my fault EVAP purge solenoid went bad, if you OVERFILL while fueling up the gas can get sucked into the EVAP system and ruin it, and once I was traveling and overfilled it, and also one night coming home @ 3:30 am I need gas, gas light was on but I was tired and had 2 x 5 gal containers of gas, this was worse that the overfill, because of how the Escapes fill system is, the flap that folds in when you insert a gas nozzle on the Escape actually has a VERY strong spring, every funnel I inserted in it, my Escape's fuel flap would shot it right back out, so trying to hold a 5 gal. canister of gas while making sure the funnel stayed in would have been comical for anyone watching, but once I got it going, I let the weight of gas can hold it down, but I probably spilled a liter of gas all in that area, and it's shortly after that I started noticing the problems. Then shortly after having the EVAP system put on I also put on a K&N Typhoon Cold Air Intake system and then maybe 2 days later, that is when the car started making chirping noises under hard / full acceleration or going uphill .. no codes, nothing, but the most obvious issue it's had, people starting telling me it's that K&N system, I was like, ummmm NO! Those are designed to get more air and lower temps which = slightly more power and also, under normal driving conditions, better gas mileage, etc... plus this car is Turbo (EcoBoost) and that's one thing turbos want, AIR! .. I has people telling me all kinds of stuff, 80% of it related to the trans / torque convertor, or maybe to just change the fluid, these cars do not do well w/ slightly dirty to dirty tranny fluid... since my bro-in-law already had 5 qts of Motorcraft MERCON LV, I drained out as much as I could using the drain plug in the center of the bottom of the trans pan (which ended up drain 4.7 qts), so i then put exactly 4.7 qts in, put about 200 miles on that, stopped by my local AMSOIL dealer and got 5 qts of there newest signature series fuel efficient trans fluid, while the car did shift smoother, etc.. did not fix issue, I kept telling them I thought it was a "boost issue", that the chirping noise was like a chirping-hissing noise, it's AIR either being released rapidly under pressure or being sucked in, or a vacuum leak in the turbo system somewhere... so finally, since I had no codes to go on, or really any livedata to go on using my BLUE DRIVER OBD-II scanner that works with iPhone and Android phones ... I started looking @ common turbo issues with these engines in all Ford's using the 1.6L and 2.0L EcoBoost, since the are very similar and in some case use same parts. in a few KZitem vids, I saw some MAP sensors issues (which my car has 2 of those - on intake manifold & intercooler), the Wastegate solenoid on some, the entire turbo on some, and then this little part called a "Turbo Boost Solenoid", small part, installed near the turbo on passengers side of car, cost was $176.00, so I just had a feeling that was it because of what it does and location of noises I heard came from that general area best I could tell ... put it on, but it was a bigger pain that I thought, heck... it was just one electrical connector and 3 vacuum hoses, but due to the location and tight working space, it was annoying, if I had a car lift instead of car ramps, I'm sure it would have been MUCH easier, main issue, getting those little tiny pressure type hose clamps (squeeze type), I just could not get those clamps in a position to squeeze them open to slide them down to the connection spot, this is where a car life would have helped, so the 3 vacuum hoses were ALL clamped on the Boost Solenoid side, but only one got clamped where they hooked to the car, instead those 2 remaining got the small cable ties on them... now this little ole 1.6L Ecoboost w/ stock HP of 178 HP, now has 202 HP @ the wheells (around 230-240 @ crank), that's just w/ the K&N Typhoon air intake, K&N throttle control module (plug & play), PerToNiX flame-thrower ign. coil pks, JMS Chip & Perf. BoostMAX, most parts from the MagnaFlow 15203 cat-back exhaust system (did not get muffler or two external pipes w/ tips), Walker Quiet-Flow SS Mufflers (matched pipe diameter up, ordered, used because still hi-flow, but a more moderate noise level, MagnaFlow did not offering a quiter edition), and saved about $250.00 doing it that way too!, NGK Laser Cut Iridium Plus, and finally the best of them all >>> LiVRNOiS Performace Tuner .. can get up to 6 tunes, they can do custom tunes for you, or you design your own tunes, or combo of booth ... will work on completely stock vehicles, but air intake and/or exhaust mods are recommended, I keep these thing inside for 3 month, scared I might mess something up, etc... finally after I replaced my turbo boost solenoid and got it running normal again, I decided to use it, which ended up best due to the turbo boost solenoid going bad, I would have prob blamed it on the tuner ... but it's honestly worth every penny, and I still hav not used the "aggressive tune" yet ... it's like having a new car again. Anyway... I babbled on and on... I just need to get my AUDIO system tweaked out to match it's performance, but so many variants of the ESCAPE with different audio systems in the same years, from factory base systems, 2 different types of mid level systems, 2 different types of high level systems, then variants of some of those, like some with amps, some w/o, some w/ "8 woofer. some w/o, etc... I also see peeps says besides the factory base OEM audio, they either have a Sony audio system or Sync? However... friend of mine bought a 2015 Escape SE live mine (except 2.0L ecoboost engine), his system has a BoSE audio system that sounds sweet, he did not put it in when he get it 2 years ago and and looks factory. So before I start tearing into things, I want to see more install vids, find out if my stereo has RCA jacks, they says some do, some don't, and they I have heard if you have the audio / video hook ups, USB, 12v, etc.. inside the center console, that you can use the two "audio:" hookups for th RCA audio hookup needs .... really? Believe it or not, was in an Audio Store today, 1st time there since I'm new to this area, but they have 100's of reviews @ 4.9 score, so when I asked him about my cars audio, he seemed kinda baffled to on somethings..... anyway, I just like to start & finish projects on the same day if possible...

Do i need 4 crossovers for 4 speakers or do the two cover both front and back ?
@monkeyball1717

Yes, 4 crossovers if you're doing component speakers sets in all four doors. If you're only doing Component speakers in the front doors then only 2 would be needed.

+Oliver Yared I am looking for something little bit more louder then the original ones what kind of speakers do you recommend
@monkeyball1717

I would recommend the exact ones in the video, the Infinity Primus PR6500CS, These are components speakers that have separate woofers and tweeters. If you want a better speaker series you can jump up to the Infinity Kappas which are 2 ohms instead of the 3 for the Primus.

fyi folks can always verify wire polarity with a multi-meter...Good detailed video! You just convinced me that I'm absolutely NOT interested in changing out the speakers in my wife's '16 Escape...Was considering it until I saw the level of grief you went thru that she will not appreciate! Fu%k It! ...my Ram Crew cab was SO much easier. Ford's are just more of a pain in the a$$ to work on.

BerettaM9USAF it is an AC signal. wont show you polarity like DC.
