I enjoyed the fact Alex specified how "Doug Polk or DNegs" should play a specific hand per their personal situation where it may work better for them but may not work for someone else. It is good to make sure that that is understood during the learning process so players without a certain skill set or situation wont make the mistake of getting into a hand they dont have any business being in. I'm pumped and ready for week 2!

I need to 3-bet way more than first anticipated. Looking at the opponent's range and their % of missed flops, betting strategy becomes quite simple. And seeing my win rate as average gained or lost # of BB makes it even simpler and affects my understanding and therefore my approach to how much and when to bet in each situation. Breaking down poker in this manner has had huge implications on my game so far over the last couple of weeks. Thanks Gripsed, you're awesome for teaching these invaluable lessons.

Very useful lesson once again. The most useful tool in my game is definitely watching what is getting to know my opponents' ranges by looking at the weakest hands they open.

my biggest take away here is how fluid a 3betting range can be. While a lot of the we get stuck with the idea that we always 3bet these hands sometimes it's worth changing the range to effectively target and exploit the villain we are facing that hand. When we think more about what is happening in the game around us, and not just about our cards or even just our ranges we can beginning to become really great players. Another great one Alex!

I would argue that the 1st time you make moves with 6-3 suited and it actually shows down, your range should be about set for awhile.

Take away - learn to target effectively. Look for opponents you can get oop that are opening with suited gappers and unsuited aces because of all of the additional weak combo's they add to their range that most opponents will either fold to your 3-bet or flat capping their range. Even if an A flops on the board their range is so wide now can make a small bet and only has to work 25% of the time. Nice!

That does'nt work nowadays,you need to barrel multiple streets to get a fold. But does that really work wen the board runs out with low cards?? What are you repping,and how are you perceived? Are you really making valuebets with an Ace high wen the utg or mid pos opener has more aces than you...and are you really doing it with the baby pairs or mid pairs on a low draw heavy board?

Is this strategy also usable in cash games or would you say it's vastly different there? Or is it usable with some tweaks? If so, which?

As a slightly newer player this probably went over my head in the video, but assuming many of your opponents are opening 20% or more hands, what should my 3 bet range be in position, from the button/cutoff/HJ. Thanks!

Constructive Suggestion: Show only 1 bullet point per page. Why show 1/2 screen pic of a glove when no one can see the bullet points? Why have even have 'em? Use software that you can increase the size of your vid to show the hands. It would improve the overall presentation. Don't settle for just showing the power point presentation. Only takes another cpl of minutes to vastly improve the overall quality.

I use 3 bet. When I am last to act or on the button. Usually I use it when the are a lot of callers I want them to get out of the hand. So I can get it heads-up with the original raiser. The opener. Pretty much I just use it to chase more people out of the pot. I am not just using it to trying to out raise the original raiser. Or get into a raising war with someone. I am using it to get more info on my opponent's hand and chase out player with mediocre hands out of the pot.

my biggest issue with 3-betting light in position is if you are 4-bet and have to fold you have wasted a chance to play a pot in position. a lot of decent players are going to put in that 4th bet with 99+, AQ+, KQs, to try to take the pot down and not play OOP. even at low levels, if you start driving everyone crazy by 3-betting them too often, you are going to see more and more 4-bets too. it doesn't take a genius to catch on when they are being abused, particularly because it does become painful to get 3-bet every time you try to open a pot.

now, how do we defend against aggressive 3-bettors? maybe just vary our play? sure i open 68s....sometimes, maybe 10% of the time. you'd have to play a very long time against someone who constantly varies their play to identify them as a "target" ... i mean, who, exactly, is going to open 68 every single time? just because you see it get shown down is meaningless...i mean it is against me. i wanna get that shown down, frankly. another good defense against this, i think, is to vary your opening size depending on position. i read this idea a long time ago in a single book (might have been Phil Gordon's Little Gold Book, but i'm not 100% sure)... if you open for smaller in earlier position you are much less exploitable...particularly if you do it consistently (i.e. not dependent on hand strength) one nice thing about this strategy is it allows you to open more hands UTG, because raising to just say 2.2BB isn't risking much with a speculative hand if the stacks are reasonably deep... it can be a good alternative to folding, and everyone knows only the biggest fish in the world limp under the gun, right?

Lol so how many 3 bets do I have when I’m using suited 58 as a 3 bet bluff. 35 -40 percent, with 10% of that range value? Clearly 58 suited is not a 3 bet pre. But I do understand what he’s trying to show, and it’s a valuable tool
@gripsed
5 жыл бұрын
anything can be a 3-bet pre if you want it to be. I've 3bet J6o in spots where it was just clearly a good any two card 3-bet and it worked... Wouldn't do that in all spots, but this game is all about widening and narrowing your range as the situation calls for it

However this idea of ramping up your 3-bet to contain an absurd amount of bluffs is assuming, that nobody is paying attention, or using a HUD online, or adjusting at all.
@gripsed
5 жыл бұрын
this is correct, but also even when people use these programs it takes a while to have a big enough sample to trust. And when dealing with opponents who are mass multi tabling they honestly won't be adjusting anywhere near as much as they shou.d
