Civilera has various free structural discussions forums for young civil & structural engineers to discuss about structural engineering basics and ETABS Tutorials. These are much more useful than structural design courses or any structural software training as the technical topics discussed are a sort of structural mentoring. Some times students ask about manual design of buildings, some times questions that helps them bag structural design or civil engineering jobs. Here in this video we are discussing a question posted by one of our students in the structural design community about the eccentricity of walls on beams. The question is how to tackle the eccentricity if the wall thickness is less than beam width and if the wall is at the edge of the beam. In the video we are discussing three points mainly. 1) If this eccentricity is ignorable. 2) If ignorable, why is it ignorable? 3) Even if it is ignorable,if one wants to capture it,how do we do that? It is infact ifnorable and one of the main reason is that the beams are having a tie action due to the presence of slabs and slabs dont let it rotate. This is a sort of compatibility torsion and this can be done away with or released. Only equilibrium torsion that generates instability in beams needs to be considered to be existing. If you see the video and also visit our forum post and the blog post in the links below, you will be able to learn every thing related to this topic and torsion in beams. www.civilera.c...
