I recall hearing that you need an appropriate level of challenge in the task to maintain a flow state, similar to the idea that in drilling you should only be succeeding about 75-80% of the time, and if you are always succeeding, you should add levels of difficulty to the drill. If you are a considerably more skilled than your opponent, do you find that adding the difficulty such as limiting your choices of which shots you will take, or in what tempo you take them helps to keep you in a flow state?

Against a lesser skilled individual, I don’t fully enter into flow state. I do notch down my speed and abilities to 5-10% above them, and my mind, for me naturally, moves into coaching and testing.

I believe flow state can be helpful in practices, I know I can just do thus type of stuff at home when I am practicing on my own with just my music to give me flow.

To find something akin to this, I have to truly drop any thoughts of who my opponent is and any background knowledge I have of them and just fight. If there was no action associated with this state of mind, I would definitely feel “floating” instead of “flowing”.

I agree that assumptiins about an opponent with thinking about the future. Not necessarily bad if you go into a match with knowledge which allows one to form a solid plan against a particular opponent. That said, I do think fighting in the present leads to the best execution of the aforementioned plan!

Completely agree with all 3 points. I'm a HUGE believer in achieving flow. It is something that has to be practiced to maintain though, and in my opinion point one and 2 could be combined. I feel like when I'm "in the zone" I don't have any other thoughts in my mind besides what I am doing that second. Great subject to dive into!
