Thank you so much!!! This was unbelievably helpful! Now I have picture Categories in the main menu rather than a limited list. Yay!

Just noticed this myself. After not being able to use this video I found this one: kzitem.info/news/bejne/mKVmqXqGk4B8nZw For my particular theme, I had to click the "Customize" under Themes in dashboard. In the right pane was my homepage template, I then clicked the area on the template where my menu was kept (for me, the header). I then made sure to open the "Block" settings in the right pane (it defaults to the template settings) and kept clicking on the block that contains the menu until the "Menu" option popped up in the settings pane where I finally could customize the menu by adding a "Category Link" block to the menu. And even that was more cumbersome than I remember ever doing on my other website. Don't know if there is an easier way because I only found it thru clicking every possible option. I probably won't remember how I did it the next time I need to add an item to the menu. 😊

Hi, I have created a category specifically so I can have drop-down buttons/options for user experience but I don't want anything to happen when the user clicks the name of the category. In your video, by clicking the category name it went to a link/url of all the posts in that page/category. In my situation, I don't want the category name to have any URL or link associated with it. How do I achieve this or am I using the wrong method to get a drop-down option. thanks in advance :)

Hi! Sorry for seeing this comment so late. If you still need help, I think I have a solution. Instead of using a "Category" link for the menu, use a "Custom link". Enter the text you want to have show up in the menu and put # into the URL field. Add that to your menu system and put the categories below that in the menu system. I hope that helps!

The url of those category menu items is /category/. Is there a way to change/simplify that to, say, just /?

Sorry for the long delay! "/category/" in the URL is annoying, but there's a trick you can use to get rid of it. Go into your WP Dashboard, go to Settings, then Permalinks. Scroll down until you see the "Category Base" field. In the field put a period "." No quotes, just the period and then save. Reload the front end of your site and all your category pages will no longer have /category/ in the URL. Something to keep in mind, Google may have indexed your category pages with the old URLs, which will now show a 404. Google doesn't like 404's much, so even though you probably don't get much search traffic directly to a category page, you may want to create 301 redirects from the old URLs to the new ones. Here's a video showing you how to create 301 redirects in the .htaccess file (it's old, but it still works) kzitem.info/news/bejne/2Z2Ntn2rcZqfem0 and here's a video show you how to do it with a plugin instead: kzitem.info/news/bejne/ypuAtGaPhaNzlqQ Just choose one of those methods, you don't need to do both. I hope that helps!

@@wplearninglabThanks for that, Bjorn! Very useful. I can't say I've ever seen that written down anywhere.
