Hi. Ive bought one too !!! Quick questions(s). Have you found out how to do either of the following? I 1. Change the brightness of the display to automatically switch between day and night? 2. Change the navigation volume separately to music volume? Any help from your experience would be appreciated.

1: not that I’ve figured out. Sadly. At night I’m quick to hit the dim button before it connects to the phone. You can control the level of brightness but can’t see an auto function. The phone would, ideally, control it but no. 2: also haven’t found this option. Hope it helps despite not being solutions! I’ll play some more and update if I discover anything.

I am curious about the outbound audio quality during phone calls. I'm assuming there's a little mic built into the device, so the closer it is to your mouth, the better you'll sound to whomever is on the other end of the call. Can you comment on how well people can hear you? I don't suppose there's a connection for an external mic, should we want to add one, is there?

Thank you for the review. I bought the CarPlay Dashboard Console 3.0, and I have been using it for a few weeks now. Overall I am disappointed with it and I will try to explain why. I have a fourth generation Prius with an Entune 2.0 console. I am frustrated with this console because of an out-of-date interface, no apple car play, and couple quirks that I don’t care for. I was looking at replace the console with an aftermarket head. However there are several problems where it made it too difficult to go through with this. So this is when I bought this console and installed it on my car. Here are a few of my gripes about the system that I have noticed so far in no particular order: - The suction cup can’t stick to the dashboard, and the smooth plate doesn’t work because of the curved plastic on the dash. Therefore I have to mount it on the windshield, which is not ideal because it block some of view. In addition, if the sun is really betting down on the car, it could cause the suction cup to disconnect. - I was hoping it would connect to Bluetooth to the existing console. However, it doesn’t work. I don’t know why, but it just doesn’t. Therefore I am forced to use the 3.5 mm connection. Not only is it another wire you have to snake through another wire. The sound output is subpar to a direct connection from your phone to the console via Blutooth. I am not an audiophile either. In addition when I am on wireless carplay the sound sometimes stutters. I don’t know if that is the fault of the unit or the iPhone. - Since the Blutooth doesn’t connect to the car, this means that you can’t use any of buttons on the steering wheel to control the console. This means that you manually have to tap the screen or to use Siri. Both options are not ideal. - The wireless carplay disconnects often. On a few occasions it caused the unit to restart. I don’t know if a wired connections alleviates this issue, but it might. - I tried to look for updates to the console via the Carlinkcarfactory website. The link to the updates goes to a google drive. Not is that only sketchy, but you can’t even access it anyways. I have requested access several time, and the company never accepted my request. I was really hoping for this to be a solution to all of my problems with my stock console. However it really failed to live up to my expectations. I am still going to keep it because it is better than nothing. But I wouldn’t recommend this product to anyone.

I appreciate all your concerns above. Recently I have managed to get it working if I select my Car and Bluetooth connection on my phone. I connect to the Carplay and then switch to Bluetooth and it seems to work. So, instead of the Carplay connecting to the car, my phone bluetooth can and then I can control it from the console. In regards to controls - yes, it would be nice to use the steering wheel controls but this is an aftermarket non-destructive solution which makes that less possible. I need a new windscreen connector but the rest is still working for me well. I have had to reconnect it a few times over the last year.
@bosskxx1
2 жыл бұрын
@@MakeLifeClick I do the same thing. After the phone connects to the console, you can click on the airplay button and select the car's bluetooth. Then you can use the car's steering wheel's buttons. However there is one big downside to it. If you activate Siri or try to read a text then it goes back to the 3.5 mm connection on the console. So it is a frustrating compromise, and one of the reasons why I wanted apple car play in the first place.

Could you please try it with Bluetooth as the audio connect method with the car and let us know how that performs? I am interested in getting one of these for use in my Tesla, which doesn't have an audio jack input. I would need to connect the tablet to the car audio system via bluetooth. So assuming your car has bluetooth as well (which I'm sure it would) could you please unplug the audio jack and connect via bluetooth and let us know if it still works as well? I just want to make sure it is possible because the website for the product seems to have contradictory information as to whether this is possible.
@MakeLifeClick

Tried it and failed. I paired it with the car but I expect the device can Bluetooth to phone for input but can’t then also connect to the car for output. It’s a remote possibility the phone itself was also connected directly to the car and the car could only accept one at a time so I’ll try that later and let you know - but it’s a slim chance.
@muddie12

@@MakeLifeClick Thanks. Yeah if you do have an update that would be good but like you, I'm not hopeful. On the website it does say: Step 2: After CarPlay Box is connected to smartphone, connecting to car audio equipment through FM Pairing/Bluetooth/Aux-in. But then under that is says: Note 1: For cars with bluetooth system, it directly connects to car audio equipment through smartphone to play audio. Note 2: Connect to CarPlay through smartphone, audio will be played by the built-in speaker of the CarPlay Box. Which is a bit confusing and I realise there will probably be translation issues but it kind of sounds like it is saying that for cars that you normally connect your phone to your car via bluetooth for audio playback then the only option is that the audio plays through the unit itself. That does seem to contradict what it says in step 2 and seems to be backed up by your experience. I just don't want to connect via FM because that type of transmission l is never clean and always has interference in my experience.
@muddie12
2 жыл бұрын
They have given me clarification on what Note 1 means. They say that for cars with Bluetooth that the phone sends the audio directly to the car audio system whilst simultaneously sending the visuals to the CarPlay device. So rather than the audio going Phone -> Device -> Car, it goes Phone -> Car for audio and Phone -> Device for the visuals. Apparently this is done in the advanced settings section of the CarPlay device. You change the Audio Channel setting to be 'Bluetooth' instead of 'Box' So if it's not too much trouble I would really appreciate it if you could try that out. I really want one of these but need to make sure this works as I have just figured out that I can't use the FM tuner option on my Tesla anyway. It doesn't actually have a proper AM/FM tuner. It just has digital radio stations that stream over the built in data connectivity in the car.

This is a good idea however, the price points are a bit high compared to installed consumer systems in the U.S. Best buy has 7" car audio receivers for less than $250 USD with free installation that have Apple car play. I admit this is good if you have an older vehicle and you do not want to replace your stereo, however the price points really need to be cheaper to get them to "fly off the shelf" If I am going to pay more than $200 for apple car play, I would spend the extra $50-$100 and get a permanent install with a warranty.

Completely agree. If there was an aftermarket unit that worked in my car I would have gone with it. This solution is for those of us who A: Don't have an option of aftermarket and/or B: want a non-destructive solution. You're right - it's expensive but it's a bit of a grey market so not huge competition. I was both A & B.

THANKS! really appreciate this! I have been using their carlinkit wireless carplay dongle along with a Nexus 7 tablet. As a result, I've just ordered this unit to replace my Nexus 7 + Carlinkit adapter. I'll let you know my thoughts. Quick Question, can you change the orientation of the nav tray so that it displays on the left side of the tablet (For US drivers)?
