I’m not quite sure I understand what you mean with the code and multiple textures, they could refer to a number of things. With code do you mean the custom model JSON, or the commands to get your custom items? And with multiple textures do you mean adding multiple custom model textures to your custom model, or having models as a parent? Or something completely different?

When I go into the model and type template:item/ (insert item name here) the word template shows up as red. The model I’m using was a blender 3d model before I used a GitHub addon to convert it into a json file. Could that be the issue? And if it is, is there a fix to make it work?

I don’t really know about converting your model. That’s something you’d need to ask the developer of the tool you used. As for the word template showing up as red, if you have the template namespace in your resource pack and you’ve typed everything correctly it should be fine

Hello! I'm trying to make a custom resource pack for a server with the brewery data pack. I have the models and texture folders properly laid out and the .json files also with the correct coding. However, the resource pack only works when the model data is "0" but it replaces all potions textures. If I add any other model data, for example, "1", it won't work. I don't know what I'm doing wrong :(

That’s very strange indeed. So just to make sure I understand, when grabbing a potion it shows the regular texture, when getting a potion with custom model data 0 you get your custom potion, but custom model data 1 doesn’t work? Might be worth double (or triple) checking that everything is spelled correctly

Unfortunately you can’t change the model/texture of an item by changing its name in vanilla Minecraft. There’s a mod for it CITresewn (I think it’s called?), but to my knowledge that hasn’t been updated to 1.21

Unfortunately not. The pumpkin blur is hardcoded. I’d really like them to change that somehow or give us more options like more blocks that can go on the players head

hey, great video, I was wondering, how do I do if there's already an "overrides" and "predicate" in the default model of the item I want to change? because I tried to add mine, or put them in the same override, but nothing worked: I either break MY texture or the default one

For context, this is the last part of the default goat horn: "overrides": [ { "predicate": { "tooting": 1 }, "model": "item/tooting_goat_horn" } ] } But I need to add another override and another predicate, but if I simply add it, it gives an error and the res pack doesn't load either of the textures

Yeah the goat horn is a bit of a weird one. I've got a banjo model on the goat horn and this is how I made mine work. That means it either can’t find the texture or the model. It’s possible that your custom model and/or texture aren’t in the right folder or that, in your built-in model file, you haven’t put the right folder for your custom model

Is there a way to get the basic model json file for different items? I'm trying to use a nether star instead of a carved pumpkin as the base, but it's not working, and I feel like it's because I don't know what should be in nether_star.json

I always get them from the game directly, but that’s not very accessible which is why I didn’t include that in the video. I don’t really know a good/easy method for getting them I’m afraid. Somebody else here in the comments used a golden_sword. You can try using that and changing the parent from “handheld” to “generated” and the texture from “golden_sword” to “nether_star”. That should make it the right file. Good luck!

How do I do this for an item? I'm trying to retexture a hoe and only have it have the texture if it has the custom model data. All the tutorials I find are outdated and don't work for 1.21

The carved pumpkin here was also an item, when it’s in your inventory it’s an item. So changing a hoe works the same.

So you get the model but not the texture? Usually that means that it can’t find the texture. Make sure you double check the location of your texture and, inside your custom model file, the path to your texture

Im in 1.21.1 which is 1 minor update away from what the video is for so i assumed it would work but its not does anyone know how to fix/tweak it to make it work for 1.21.1? I could also be dumb and did something wrong but im pretty sure i followed everything perfectly.

I’m afraid this still works in 1.21.1. But 1.21.2 will come out soon(ish) which will make it easier to apply custom models to items. I’ll do a tutorial on it then

No, that still uses custom model data. 1.21.2 introduces a new item model component that sort of bypasses custom model data. Custom model data won’t be necessary anymore

Unfortunately not. You can’t change entity models in vanilla Minecraft. There are mods that’ll let you do that though

Very good question! When putting a carved pumpkin on your head it renders as the block, if you put custom model data on that it will render the custom model. When you put a helmet on it will render the helmet as an extra layer on the player and not the custom model. So while you can put custom model data on a helmet, it won’t render the custom model. Instead it will still show the helmet.

Right now no. When 1.21.2 comes out you’ll be able to have custom textures for custom armour. But you won’t be able to give armour a custom model

It doesn’t. When you put a pumpkin on your head, Minecraft renders that as an item. If the item has custom model data it will show the custom model. However when you put a helmet on, Minecraft renders that as part of the player model, which you can’t change. Unfortunately the carved pumpkin is the only item that you can place in the helmet slot that can also display a custom model

so idk how i did it i followed everything you did. But as soon as i try to get the item. (commands show same as did with you) and when i press enter. I get kicked. From a single player world..... sooo uhmm... yea ima just watch a few times to see if i somehow fix it or not :3 (HELP) Edit-- i looked one more time i had "overrudes" instad of 'Overrides" So that is fixed but now i just get the pumpkin and nothing els

Glad you managed to fix getting kicked. As for getting only the pumpkin now, can you double check that you've typed everything correctly? As you've seen, one little mistake can have big consequences.

@@lukaskristensen5734 In Minecraft, if you navigate to the resourcepack setting, there’s a button at the bottom saying “open resourcepack folder”. If you click that, it will open a folder where you drop the resourcepack you made. Back in Minecraft it should appear in the left column of the resourcepack screen, using the arrow (hover over it) you can move it to the right to select it. It should work then. Good luck!

Where it says “predicate” you’ll want to put a comma behind that line, then basically copy it with all the details of the new model and make sure that custom_model_data is set to a number higher than the first. Also make sure your new line doesn’t end with a comma. Hope this helps and thanks for your comment!

Here’s an example. The first line is the one from the tutorial, I just made up the second one. Let me know if it works! {"predicate": {"custom_model_data":1}, "model": "template:item/cap"}, {"predicate": {"custom_model_data":2}, "model": "template:item/another_item"} Edit: copying and pasting somehow messed up the brackets and added a space where there wasn’t supposed to be. Just fixed that

Do you get the missing texture texture? If so, that usually happens when it can’t find the texture. It’s possible that you’ve spelled it incorrectly or linked to it incorrectly

@@100percentmeep yeah I do, I've checked over the texture like 3 times, I even quit/re-opened it in blockbench, blockbench says it is valid when I open the item inside the resource pack but minecraft itself is like "nope"

And that is exactly your issue. They have to be in the items folder. I’m not entirely sure why, but Minecraft won’t find it if they’re not in the items folder. So the model has to be in models/items and the texture in textures/items

@Rarikan Tridents are a little weird, the trident and the spyglass are the only two items that show a 2D texture in the inventory but a 3D model in your hand. I’ve never looked into how it works exactly, but I’m pretty sure it’s hardcoded. I don’t think you can change the model for the trident unfortunately.

Of course! I’m using Datapack Helper Plus by Spyglass and syntax-mcfunction. In VSCode, in the extension tab, search for those two extensions and install them. It should all work after you’ve done that! EDIT: Just properly read your comment, sorry! You need to unzip the file first
