I visited China in 2014 and went to the Forbidden City. Very crowded. Saw a Chinese woman looking at me. She just kept looking at me. So I said Ni Hao. I could tell she was surprised that I knew any Chinese words at all. She smiled and said Ni Hao back. Because she was a total stranger I guess I got it right.

Hi! I love your videos. It's always some practical knowledge. I have a request. It would be a great help if you could consider it. Please make a video about How to write chinese characters like a native and the rules of stroke order. It would be even more helpful if you could make it like for HSK 1,2,3... How would I address a waiter/ waitress or the manager at a restaurant?
@yiminchinese
4 жыл бұрын
for the waiter and waitress, you just call them 服务员!🥰🥰🥰 for the manager? to be honest, normally we don't get to deal with the manager when we go to a restaurant. but anyway, you can address him or her by surname+经理 if you know the surname, if not, just 经理。hope it helped , don't hesitate to ask if you have further doubt.
@mountaintag
4 жыл бұрын
The manager could be 老板. The waiter or waitress could be 服务员. The waitress could also be 小姐. And the waiter could sometimes be 帅哥. This means "handsome guy". So its usage would depend on the circumstances.

yes my friend you can use it, but a little tips, the word 美女 is kind of already abused, and now a lot girls already don't like to be called 美女. so you need to be careful when you use it. 🥰🥰

thanks you Carl , happy to read from you again, and about your question, I think it depends on your relationship with them and also your personality, if you are enthusiastic and you are already like friends with the owner, you definitely can sue the formulas in my video, with 哥 ,姐,but if you are not that close yet, or you are more conservative or introvert, you can just say 老板好。 for example ,in my case, it really takes me a long long time to use 哥and 姐with another person, we got to be really close. haha .hope it helped , don't hesitate to ask if you have further doubt.🥰🥰🥰

@yiminchinese
4 жыл бұрын
hola amigo, thank you for watching , liking , and sharing my video, it means a lot to me , I really appreciate it .🥰 🥰 🥰 and about your question, if she is already a friend, you can call her by given name rather than surname. normally we double the given name, or put a 小xiao (little) to make it nicer for younger friend. for example, you know my given name is yimin, so my close friend call me "minmin"(double it) or "xiao min" , hope it helped , don't hesitate to ask if you have further doubt, if you are not sure, you can tell me the given name of your friend, I can tell you the answer more specifically and accurately .🥰
@mountaintag
4 жыл бұрын
I don't know if 长妹好 is a good way to greet a younger lady. Because 妹妹 means "younger sister" or "kid sister", so it's not very respectful (even if she is young). I think that 小姐 is probably better, because it means "little older sister". So I would say 张小姐, 你好. (I think it's more complete to include 你, even though the name is there.)
@aabajolatareaa
4 жыл бұрын
@@yiminchinese I got it. And what about the names that have two syllabes, for example my friend, 聪明 or even the famous 小龙,what syllabe should I double? Thank you Xiaomin because you always answer my questions. Si necesitas alguna ayuda en español puedo ayudarte, gracias.
@aabajolatareaa
4 жыл бұрын
@@mountaintag Yes, but have you heard that 小姐 means prxstitx? So if you miss the surname at the beginning, the lady will get angry. And if you saw series like 流星花园 or even 微微一笑, people never say "张小姐, 你好", they say "张小姐, 好" or " 张小姐, 早" even Yimin said that The "nihao" got old.
@yiminchinese
4 жыл бұрын
gracias amigo, muy amable🥰 about your question, most of the time, we double the last character of the given name, like in my case, xiaomin, minmin, but there are exceptions, sometimes they double the first character of the given name, but very few cases. don't worry, you always can ask me , I answer it as soon as possible🥰

This is so useful! I have a question, is 大家好 appropriate when greeting multiple people? I've definitely heard people using someone’s surname + 哥 or 姐. Does it have the same meaning when they use their surname and repeat it? I've heard for instance, chinese actress Tiffany Tang, got called Tang Tang by another friend actress. What does this mean? 谢谢王老师 😊
@yiminchinese
4 жыл бұрын
hi my friend, so happy to see you again . to answer your question. 大家好 is appropriate, no worries. and the thing you mentioned "double the surname" is not the same case like "surname+ 哥 or 姐", "double the surname" counts like a nickname, so it's for close friends, and there are many ways to give a nickname,some times "double the surname", sometimes" double the given name"( this one is more common), for example, my best friends call me "minmin", they double one character of my given name, I hope it helped ,don't hesitate to ask if you have further doubt ,or more things to share with us. always welcomed. thanks for watching and liking my videos🥰 🥰 🥰 have a nice day
@mountaintag
4 жыл бұрын
I think that 大家好 is good if you are greeting an audience. If you are just greeting a few people, then I think 你们好 might work better. Using 哥 or 姐 with surnames seems unusual to me. These words are meant to be used with family members. Outside of that, I think it would depend on the circumstances and mutual relationships.
