Those stators should have a stock timing mark from factory right? Because I ordered one from jet unit and it doesn’t have a timing mark I tried to match it but it’s off runs a little not smooth at all and won’t rev without backfire

Unfortunately some of the cheap after market ones do not. Your best bet is to either buy a new OEM or or a good used one.

mark. I just rebuilt a 62t engine plus the carbs. I had to replace the original stator cause the plate was cracked. the new one had no marks for timing so I lined them as close as I could in comparison w the old one. when I start the ski it instantly starts and idles perfect but it bogs with any throttle input. if i choke it and rev it doesn't help. I can see fuel in the carbs from the boosters too. does this sound like a carb issue or could i have the timing off too far?

what is the purpose of advancing the timing? More power? Do you need to have mods to do this?
@EricksonMachinePerformance
3 жыл бұрын
Yeah. More power 2 big things to increase power is timing and compression. You can advance a stock ski and still get nice gains in performance. But to much and 💥💣

Where are there any marks to check your timing with a timing light or do you create your own?

Match it with the line. Unfortunately if it an aftermarket stator they don't all have the timing mark
@mitchellbolton269
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply! Sorry, don't mean to be dense . . . by "matching" do you mean the original score/scribe mark should be aligned with the center of the arrow cast into the case? When I took it off it the score mark appeared to be slightly advanced from that arrow. I'm replacing the engine on a Boston Whaler Rage jet boat. Original motor was a 61X, I'm putting in a 62T dual carb. Stator/Flywheel and CDI will still be the original 61X. Thanks SO much for all the help you provide on here!

You need to be careful the msd is advanced and some aftermarket flywheels are also advanced. I'd recommend putting a timing light on it first. I will be posting a video soon on how.to do it

It's always safer to see exactly where you're at when mixing different manufacturers. It's easy to end up a few degrees more advanced than initially planned.

Hi , I have rebuilt a VXR Pro 1994 61x with the excellent tutorials from your videos. The initial problem was a broken reed. So I decided to take the whole engine apart and clean plus rebuild from scratch. New Stator, piston heads, new starter, full gasket rebuild kit. All back together today and started no problem and idles great BUT it wont rev up. When I increase the throttle it sounds as if it is getting choked and the revs decrease. I thought it might be the timing so I checked the stator again . I also cleaned the carb. Pistons have the arrow to the exhaust ports. I am scratching my head here, out of ideas, any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards Brian - Ireland

@@antygibbo 1 ohm on a continuity test means weak stator, you want it closer to zero ( like .5 ohms )
