Thank you kevin, with a full moon and a 6 inch reflector telescope I have struggled to no end just trying to find something as big as the moon. The finding scope was not set up and everything in the scope was in reverse. so being new to all this my corrections were opposite. even knowing its opposite it seems muscle memory doesn't want to co-operate that well. your eye see's go left so arm takes it left.. but you should have gone right in opposite..the finding scope takes all that reverse frustration away... provided the finding scopes lock down screws haven't been loosened and the finding scope is pointed somewhere entirely different. kinda stuff you find with garage sale telescopes.

My experience with the red dot finder was troublesome. I did the daytime alignment, but experienced both glare and loss of the dot. The sun was behind me and low in the sky. I was able to proceed only by moving the telescope into deep shade. The red dot then formed on the reticle. It would be easy to break a red dot finder when trying to see the dot in daylight and over adjusting the screws.

Not entirely correct. If you want to get a more accurate alignment of your finder scope, it is better to use a higher magnification eyepiece. Anything from a 20 and above will not align the finder scope accurately and it will be off drastically if you swap out an eyepiece to lets say a 6mm. I do not think telescope companies took into account that all eyepieces vary in degrees and field of view. If one wants a true and accurate alignment. I would highly recommend using a 14mm or higher magnification to align the finder scope; this way your object will remain in the field of view. If you go with a 20mm or lower and align your finder scope and then if you swap out to a higher one like a 6mm, the object will be in the finder scope, but it will not be in the actual field of view and you will be moving your scope all over the place trying to find it. Now unless of course you have a Goto Mount then this won't matter either way. So if you are using a Dobsonian like I do then I would recommend using a higher magnification eyepiece like a 14mm to align your finder scope. This way your guaranteed to have the object in both the finder scope and actual field of view when swapping to higher or lower magnification eyepieces. :) Happy Exploring!
@sureshlingabathina

Extremely correct.
@allnamesaretaken

You are correct for the most part except in the video he was using an SCT which has a very long focal length. Sticking a 14mm eyepiece in an SCT is over the top. It was just poor wording/tutorial on Celestron's part. They should have planned this video out and gone into it further about the different telescope focal lengths and eyepiece focal lengths to use when aligning the finders. A 23mm is about right for an SCT and a 14mm is not enough for a 400mm focal length telescope. There is no one size fits all.

I had to remove the battery and bend the connection point so it would make constant contact with the battery. It worked. However, last night I tried to SkyAlign many times. Despite following the instructions and choosing three very bright stars, I kept getting an "Alignment Failed- Objects do not appear in the database". What are the 2 or 3 most likely causes for this? Keep in mind I am in northern Thailand.
@CelestronDotCom
7 жыл бұрын
1. Make sure date, time and location is entered in correctly, including Standard Time in case your handcontrol is set to Daylight Savings Time. 2. You can choose to enter in your location’s longitude and latitude coordinates in case your city is not listed in the handcontrol’s city database. 3. Tripod should be level. 4. You can also try other alignment methods if Sky-Align continues to fail. My preferred alignment method is Auto-Two Star 5. Also, very important. When you center alignment stars, you must make sure you are absolutely centering the bright alignment stars and not nearby random stars. 6. Since we are in winter, you can try using Regulus, Sirius, and Capella; Sirius, Rigel and Polaris; or Pollux, Rigel and Aldebaran as alignment stars using Sky-Align. If all else fails, Tech Support can help walk you through: mail@celestronsupport.com

@michaellupton335
4 жыл бұрын
Mark Di Paolo Mark, At first it does appear that the red dot is not present. As long as the finder scope is on, and has working batteries it will be there. Try rotating your head in the view finder, you should suddenly see the red dot pop into focus. When you switch the red dot finder on, look down towards the actual finder scope, you should see a tiny tiny red light, if you see this its working. You need to turn the finder scope ‘on’ button fully forward, as it magnifies the red dot by turning/rotating the finders scope button. You just need to rotate your head in the finder till it comes into view. :))

Haven't had a chance to test if it holds zero, but mounts just fine and has nice clear glass. Centered vertically true to a plumb line with the crosshairs which is always a plus!It's a great kzitem.infoUgkxc4K63Fd5LglDMObu7-Bgapxp_ef0W8hE scope. There's no parallax adjustment or focus ring, so may be limited to 3-7x, have to see how it is on the range. Also be aware that the rings are "look through" so you can still use irons, but they are really tall if you only intend to use the optics. On a 22LR no biggie since I'm not shooting competitions or worried about a hard cheek press. Will boresight and range test, if all goes well, I'll leave it at that!

@CelestronDotCom

ALIGNING YOUR STARPOINTER PRO The StarPointer Pro helps you aim your telescope by looking through its round glass window and centering your target in the circular reticle. Before you can use use the finder, you’ll need to align it with the telescope’s main optics. Although this step can be done at night, it is significantly easier during the day. Once you have completed the finderscope alignment, you should not have to repeat this step unless the finderscope is bumped or dropped. TO ALIGN THE STARPOINTER PRO: 1. Take the telescope outside during the day. Using your naked eye, find an easily recognizable object, such as a streetlight, car license plate, or tall tree. The object should be as far away as possible, but at least a quarter mile away. 2. Make sure your lowest magnification eyepiece is installed in the telescope 3. Move the telescope so that it is roughly pointing toward the object you chose in step 1. 4. Look through the telescope’s eyepiece and move the telescope until the object you chose lies in the center of the view. 5. Turn on the StarPointer Pro by turning the power/brightness switch knob on the bottom of the unit as far as it will go. 6. With your head positioned about a foot behind the finder, look through the round window and locate the two red circles of the reticle. It will probably be close to, but not on top of, the object you see when you are looking through the telescope eyepiece. 7. Without moving the telescope, use the two adjustment knobs on the side and underneath the finderscope. One controls the left-right motion of the reticle, while the other controls the up-down motion. Adjust both until the reticle appears over the same object you are observing in the telescope eyepiece. Note: Be sure to turn off the finderscope when not in use to conserve battery power. s3.amazonaws.com/celestron-site-support-files/support_files/51365_StarPointerPro_Finderscope_InstSheet_BW.PDF
