Like you, I also find myself loving the chance to go back and read my thoughts on a book. What I’ve recently begun to do is annotate with a different colored pen every time I reread a book. So my first read notes are usually in black, second blue, third red, etc. It’s fun to see which things have stood out to me during different parts of my life. :)

An interesting system you have. I could never write on my books, especially the more expensive ones! Perhaps I’m being too precious about them. Lovely handwriting by the way.

I should incorporate the end of chapter sticky notes. I really enjoy writing in my non fiction books, because it's like im talking to the author indirectly. Such active engagement vs. passive.

I never thought of it in that way but I love that way of thinking! It really is almost like you’re conversing with the author when you add your own thoughts and ideas to the text. Thank you for sharing this with me

Great tips! I do something like this on kindle. One thing I want to copy from you is the idea of summarizing the main idea of each chapter.

Thank you! This seems like a very good and straightforward system! Did you ever think about a common place book where you'll store all of the text from your sticky notes so it's easier to go through them?

Really nice video. One thing though… 1984 was fiction, it’s a novel by George Orwell. It does feel like non-fiction, though so I totally get it.

The post-it idea is great! Seems like a great way to go back to it and make sure you learned stuff :p This might be a bit of a stupid question, but the only thing I am a little worried about is that it'll make the book look different, like the pages are too spread apart and it's too thick in general. Does that happen once you're done with the books? :v

What do you do with the books once you no longer need them?
@reef6826
Жыл бұрын
For me I just scribble random thoughts I have on the text in the margin or sometimes between the lines. I’ll highlight a few lines that stood out to me. I’m too lazy to write summaries, I read slow, imagine arguments in my head, and how these new ideas relate to my old ideas. And if after all that my mind is still blank well the truth is that book was just boring and not my thing, and in that case what’s the point. 🤷🏻♂️ Nice video tho, interesting too see other peoples thought process 👍

Thank you for sharing your approach and for taking the time to comment! I quite like your approach, especially in regards to imagining arguments. When it comes to nonfiction books, the choice of information being presented and the way in which it’s presented can skew towards certain conclusions. So I feel that constantly challenging the text and your understanding of it just make for an overall better experience.

Never mark in a book. I buy 90% of my books in used book stores, underlines or highlighted sections ruin a book for the next reader.

I personally love seeing people's annotations in used books! Gives them so much character. Plus, if you are never going to give the book away, you can do what you want with it as far as I'm concerned
