I downloaded the Aloft app a couple of days ago and all of the prompts seem pretty straight forward until I get through the "Check Lists." From there I get taken to a screen that asks me to connect my aircraft to my device. It's as if I'm expected to connect my drone to my cellphone. This might make sense if I were using a controller with my cellphone attached and acting as my control screen but, I'm using one of the newer DJI RC 2 controllers. Why does my drone have to be connected to my cellphone in order to proceed beyond this point? Here's what happens: I open the app and I'm automatically logged on. The area where I'm wanting to fly in is marked on the map. From there I click on the "FLY" icon and it takes me to the Check-list. Once I've filled in the check-list I'm then taken to another page where an Icon appears with text that reads, "Connect Aircraft." To the lower right of that icon is another icon that reads, "LOG MANUAL FLIGHT." When I click on the "LOG MANUAL FLIGHT" icon, it takes me to another list of parameters that I can't fill in because my drone isn't connected. I have to mention that the area I have selected is in a Class-G air space. Is this why I'm being asked to these additional hoops in order to fly in this spot? Is the ALOFT app intended only for getting LAANC authorization for controlled air space? I deliberately tried getting LAANC authorization in an area that falls within controlled Class-B air space and got the same hoops to jump through. Can you or anyone else who has viewed this video give me a clue of what I'm doing wrong?

Great video! Thank you so much! First time drone flyer here! Quick question! When you select an area you want to fly, like in 1:45 and all the advisory’s come up (in your case 10) what are those telling me if one of those 10 is red and a few others yellow? Am I still allowed to fly even though I’m still getting approved to do so?

Some of those advisories are just alerts, like local helo launch points (hospital). The red ones are critical, such as emergency responder activity, and you'd want to avoid flying in those areas as it is illegal to fly in close proximity to emergency activity.

Excellent tutorial. I wanted to give the Aloft app with my DJI Mini 3 Pro a test flight today, but I was unprepared for one thing--my iPhone knew that I had been approved to fly in controlled airspace (since a text from the FAA had just given me approval), but my drone did NOT know. When I tried to launch it, I got a message saying it couldn't take off because I was in controlled air space. I need to get the LAANC approval info from my phone to my drone, but I'm not yet sure how. If you can help me, I'd appreciate it.

This is a problem we used to have with our Phantom 4's on the Go4 app. If you are logged into your DJI Fly app, it SHOULD ask for permissions to unlock the particular LAANC zone you are trying to fly in and you should be good to go. We fly in downtown Orlando frequently, next to an airport, and DJI just asks to unlock. Again, the main thing is you are logged in to the DJI Fly app.

Is there a video on how to use Aloft as you flight controller instead of the DJI app?

@awwaldo, we have not seen one previously, but that might be a great subject for an upcoming article and video. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hello very nice videos you do ! Newbie question I have this app and al B4UFLY app. I have mini 3 pro under 249gram . If you fly outside of any circle do one still need do LANNCE request? If you dont would it be best to do one to be respectful? Thx.

If you are using a Mini 3 Pro (or any drone for that matter) and it is outside of LAANC, there is no need to request authorization. In those cases, if outside a grid area, I don't believe it'll even give the option for request. Have fun!
