Video demonstrating how to properly apply a waterless table screen protector film to your tablet device. In this video I have an Apple iPad 4th generation and I am applying a protection film to the screen to protect the glass. The film application requires a very clean work surface, patience, a steady hand and a good lighting. You will notice that I have a damp microfiber cloth on the my glass table and the reason why you need that cloth is to keep dust at bay and to "swipe" any dirt and dust on your screen away and onto the moist cloth where the dust will "stick" to the cloth so your work surface remains clean.
This application method will essentially work for any device that you want to cover the screen with protection film. Whether it be an iPhone, an Android device or a Blackberry Playbook it is all the same. Clean clean clean is the key.
For those arguing that screens on devices are virtually scratch proof and don't need film I can assure you that children will FIND ways to destroy the screen and I was amazed at how a 2 year old managed to "gouge" an iPad 4's Gorilla glass screen. I've always believed in protecting an expensive investment like a tablet so what is an extra $10 for a screen protector?
Please note if you're installing a water based film like the ZAGG film that this procedure does NOT apply. Most of the films I use are semi sticky or cling fit films. ZAGG films are an adhesive based one that needs activating with a water soap solution.
Films I had GREAT success applying include those from Switcheasy, Belkin, iCon, as well as the inexpensive asian "copy" films that sell on the street markets in Hong Kong.
Is there a difference in quality? Some films are matted, some are high definition gloss they're all sufficient at protecting your screen. It's more of a personal preference and really up to the user.
Don't let companies convince you that their film has a warranty against punctures and tears. I like ZAGG products but when I found out their screen film was $30 I was turned off by how pricey it was, the fact their protectors had an orange peel look to them and they claimed there is a warranty on your film. I would be VERY CONCERNED if you managed to puncture the film on your screen and would be questioning what abuse you're putting your tablet through where you'd have to warranty the film. Bad film appellation and peeling are not a warrantable so really it is a marketing gimmick.
I've done 3 iPads in the last few days and all the protection films cost me about $10 per device and honestly the results were better. The money I saved will allow me to buy replacement films should mine ever wear out (which they do develop micro scratches over time). Give your tablet a refreshed look by changing when necessary. I have an iPad 2 that still looks as new as the day I bought it!
