Well done! I’ve had the bits melted at the end separate from the rest but never untie. I’ve had one particular clip lashed to a light going strong for 3 years now. Throw a ranger band or piece of inner tube on your BCD and you’ll be streamlined AF

Thanks for the video. But I always have a question how will you going to use the tool during a dive. Say I tied my SPG with a bolt snap and clipped to my BCD. Do I need to unclip the bolt snap everytime when I check my air? Why don't use a retractable device instead? Thanks!
@CircleHScuba
18 күн бұрын
Either unclip or just glance down because it’s clipped on an area I can see if I just tilt it a bit. Either way isn’t an inconvenience. You check air often but it’s not like you have to look every 5 minutes unless you’re starting to get close to your reserve or something.

@@CircleHScuba that's true. Maybe I just not very confident with clipping a gear while diving lol. Not only spg but also flashlight or camera. Thank you for replying!

Interesting video. As a tip, set the focus point on the camera to the torch and it wont keep re-focusing when your hands move back and forth.

Last step: Add drop of super glue (cyanoacrylate), to both sides of knot.
@CircleHScuba

How easy does that cut through in an entanglement emergency? I haven’t tried it yet.

Just glue on knot. 'Can still cut line between snap and gear.

What is the size of the boltsnap used? Thank you!
@CircleHScuba

They come in a variety of sizes so it kind of depends on what you’re wanting. I think I have some linked in the description that were in this video, but you may want larger or potentially smaller, depending on what the item is and use case. For example larger on side mount works well for me, or with cold weather gloves.

A helpful tip is to apply a little superglue to the final knots. then its bonded and less likely to come apart. Ive done this with ropes and paracord before. After researching it super glue is safe to use and wont harm coral. In fact many use it for coral fragging. Just did some searching. according to aquarium owners this is what I found: "Any cyanoacrylate glue is safe, most common from them are super glue, super glue gel, krazy glue, crazy glue gel. No matter what brand."

Reading through the threads this type of glue has been safe for all sorts of fish including tropical fish with no drawbacks. So it appears it likely would be safe overall for us to use

A second option and simpler would be to use a SS split ring.
@CircleHScuba
Жыл бұрын
Split rings are great too when you have an attachment point like the light for sure. Some things you need to tie a bolt snap to don’t have a spot for a split ring though, like when you add a bolt snap to a second stage hose in some configurations. Definitely nothing wrong with a split ring in my opinion, though there’s an argument for it not being “quick break away” in case of entanglement

Why do you use the plastic bottom of the lighter instead of the metal plate of it? the result is the same and the metal does not burn or melt.

That’s a good way too! I smash it with the bottom or side of the lighter, the metal part, or sometimes my fingers haha. I guess it all works similarly 😅 Thanks for leaving a comment!

This one I believe was a #24 nylon line, usually called “cave line” #18 or #36 is used sometimes too, but generally people want to make sure they can easily cut it off in case of entanglement.

After losing a torch (using the suggested approach), I’ve replaced the line with stainless stell o rings (for attaching a bolt snap to a device) It’s more reliable solution.
@CircleHScuba

Those are great options too. One of the cons with that is if it gets entangled you can’t cut it free, but to your point the pro is it won’t break.

How exactly does clipping accessories on to your BCD with bolt snaps NOT constitute "clipping things on to look like a Christmas tree"? This is EXACTLY what you look like and is in no way "streamlining."
@CircleHScuba
Күн бұрын
You clearly don’t know what a Christmas tree diver is then haha. Clipping off and using something like inner tube or “ranger bands” to keep things against your BC is very much streamlining. People clipping everything known to man to their kit for every dive when they don’t need 99% of the extra crap they bring…that’s the problem.
