The secret to self-control is to give up control, and we do so by removing temptations. As James Clear put it beautifully and concisely saying "People who appear to have the greatest self-control are actually the ones who are tempted the least". So, instead of draining our precious willpower reserve on temptations and distractions, whereas we could use precommitment systems or "forcing functions" as Ben Hardy call them, let's orient that precious limited willpower reserve to building habits and making decisions. I highly recommend reading these five books, preferably in the same order: Willpower (Roy Baumeister and John Terny), The Willpower instinct, Mini habits by Steven Guise, Atomic Habits by James Clear, and Willpower doesn't work by Benjamin Hardy. The best tools that work as a system and in harmony and helped keep me studying consistently for 6 to 8 hours every single day(except Friday and Tuesday because they are my breaks) are: (1) Forest (as an instant reward and tracking tool) & (2) AppBlock or Stay Focused (for smartphones, these are apps you can't cheat, the only way is to format your phone (: ) as a pre-commitment system: because I don't wanna drain my willpower into resisting the temptation of checking social media or video games. (3) ColdTurkey on PC (also you can't cheat (:), and it's super flexible. (4) I have never ever used Fb and KZitem from my phone since I discovered those tools, like around 2 years ago. I use the AppBlock app I mentioned to automate that and take willpower off the equation. I use KZitem and Fb on PC, and they are even blocked using ColdTurkey all days except Tuesdays & Fridays(reward days). Even on those days, almost all of my time is on my subscribed channels, because I use two chrome extensions "AdBlock" and "Fb news Feed Eradicator" to eliminate the elements, which represent the cues/triggers that keep us binging them (recommended videos pane, trends tab, home, suggested videos, auto-play icon, news feed). The only things that are there on my KZitem are my subscribed channels pane, comments pane, and the video screen of-course configured by default to be full screen. Fb is only a messenger tool, and for the people that I follow, can just manually go through their pages. No any damn news feed or videos. I wish KZitem let us upload some pictures, then I can actually show you everything I said. Btw, here's my Telegram number if you'd so 00249968654953. Btw, I watched your Active recall system using Notion. I really liked it, especially your table and spaced Repetition ideas. For the spaced Repetition, I recommend an app called "Let's Review". It's an android exclusive, and it's not popular, but it's flexible, you yourself set the intervals. Man! this system has made life much easier, helped me gain control over my life, increased my attention span (my Forest session is 50 mins with a 10-mins break Alhumdulli Allah) and helped me build great towns in Forest during those 2 years.
