oof I feel this, I have justified every expensive drink/meal with "oh but I have to make up for a year without outings!" Meanwhile, during the lockdowns I was justifying expensive takeaway with "oh but I would have used this money for outings anyway and I deserve nice things!" lol whoops..

Top tip: if you buy coffee every morning before work/uni, buy yourself a cheap coffee machine. With a bit of research you will be able to get really good coffee for a better price.

Going into summer and the second year of university, this hits hard. I'm worried I'm going to fall into bad attachments with money and alcohol. I've always felt afraid to spend money (i literally barely buy clothes new) but I'm scared that 'i'll miss out' if I don't spend money on experiences. I finally have a good amount of money for the first time in a while. I'm hoping to be sensible with it. Thank you for this video

as someone with adhd, impulse spending is a HUGE problem for me. personally I’ve found that having a friend to hold you accountable or just talk about on purchases you might not need has helped me slow down and rationalize my impulse purchases a little bit

Would also suggest if you’re doing long term big savings having a bank account where you have limited access to helps. I am naturally a bit of a spender and having this helps a lot when I’m the sort of person that loves transferring money over to another account when I feel to urge to get a round in/ buy something I don’t need etc etc

great timing tbh! i’m usually pretty good at saving, but i’ve also been having a lot of anxiety about it since i’m about to be basically totally independent for the first time in a way i actually have to think about (undergrad i was basically on a full ride that covered rent and whatnot but now i’m starting grad school which … terrifying)

I’m a 27yo living and working in London and despite earning enough, I always find myself dipping into my overdraft and credit card towards the ending of the month/before payday. I’m the kind of person who saves a lot but also going into overdraft as a result of that!

The whole email listing thing really stood out to me. I don't overspend on clothing at all. But, oh my fucking god, every time I get an email saying "A game on your wish list is on sale!!" from Steam or the Nintendo eShop I am ON IT: buy the game and *all* of the DLC. I overspend on video games so much because of it!!

I actually did an unsubscribing purge on my email yesterday and now I only have emails for important things, Karma (*not * to be confused with Klarna, stay away from Klarna) when an item I've saved has a price drop, and receipts. Another saving tip would be to delete takeaway apps. It's been difficult but it's important. You are better off always having a ready meal from the freezer instead - it works out a heck of a lot cheaper. I've found that the anticipation of the takeaway was better than actually eating it.

That "pop to the shop" point hit different for me. I'm a student and my campus has a Spar, it's so easy to just think "oh I'll just go to buy some milk and bread" and I end up spending 20 quid. I'll keep this point in mind.

Also, those ready-to-eat meals can be both expensive and unhealthy. I was enjoying pre-made tomato soup from the grocery, when I discovered that it has 35 grams of saturated fat per cup! That’s more than a day’s allowance.

If you live at home with your parents it is really not that difficult in most cases. Im 20 from the uk, i live at home with my parents im on a salary (i earn £1,550 a month) and i have been saving £1000 a month for years. PAY YOURSELF FIRST, set up a saving account and put away x amount as soon as you get paid
