i used a regular sharpie for a glass painting and if you can get it accurate enough you can layer it to make sure its not transparent (i layered it abt 3-4 times) just let it dry before painting so it doesnt smudge

Sharpie will almost always eventually fade. Just use oil paint markers or sharpie paint markers
@anonymousopinion228
3 жыл бұрын
@vangie you're right oil pens are better ... however if u just want to do something for yourself and you have most of the items such as glass and acrylic paint sharpie is a good alternative for a cheaper project ... you can always go over the lines with a black paint to help ... I guess sharpie would be a cheaper alternative to someone who was starting out or wanting to give it a try ... most oil pens where I live at are 6 to 7 dollars when you could go in to the dollar tree spend about 6 to 7 dollars on a sharpie, a picture frame with glass, and diffrent colored Acrylic paints

Instead of using a fully black top coat, I often go online and find a site that can give me the colour palette of the image I'm using - then, i'll pick out the colour that most accurately represents the entire picture, and put that on the back! It just adds a visable 'mood' that can be seen when the painting is held up in sunlight!

For outlines, if you're going to be using acrylic or water based paint one of the best options is just to use an oil based marker, reason being oil dosen't mix with water. If you use a water based marker and paint, for example posca paint pen and acrylic paint, it will most likely bleed into the paint or be smeared by the paint. One that works really well and it pretty easy to find is an oil based sharpie.

Extra tip: Applying paint to harshly effects the line work depending on what marker you use. If you have a heavy hand or find it easier/more effective to use a swiping motion I recommend using a oil based sharpie (the marker is white but the ink is black dont worry.). They don't crack, they're very opaque and it wont come off with hard brush strokes.

Thank you, glad to help & be able to share my tips! 🤎 As for that, rule of thumb for me always is to make twice as you think you'll need! The only downside to that really is you'll have too much extra, however, you could always get a paint pot (they're very cheap) to store it in or even use some old containers, so you could reuse them for later ☺️🙌🏼

Use acrylic paint. But I suggest the smaller metall tubes , not the cheap big plastic ones , they're translucent most of the time. You can search on Amazon and get a set, I got one with 60 colours for 30€ (like 27$ idk sry 😬) mine even came with skintone shades. I would send you the link but I only have the german Amazon site.

@bacalalyka

I think each blow dryers settings may vary. I used mine on its "moderate heat" but it still gave me bubbles... Rule of thumb I notice is to keep it far and not expose it to heat for too long. Ultimately, just look infront of your glass while blowdrying to be safe 👍🏼

I figure on the back you could just use an opaque black piece of paper. (Cut out in the shape obviously.) Maybe. It'd be more reversible.
@bacalalyka
Ай бұрын
Tried this before actually and would not advise it as it could really damage your work: 1) not being able to cut a clear silhouette of your paint will make the light seep thru unevenly 2) correcting the paper with whatever adhesive: glue or tape can lead to the paint sticking = messing up the artwork 3) different paints have different reactions when paper is involved which makes it really messy in the long run if you're not careful. At the end of the day, yes you can still do it, but just be cautious of these factors!

@@laurenejacquot9699 Don't stroke with the brush , take a blob of paint and blob it on. You can move and spread it but only touch the top of the blob ,you can use the top of a pencil or a toothpick. This also makes the paint less see through.
