Thanks Old Man! I installed mine and took it out for a ride, two cold nights in a row... Looks great, sits perfectly with the angle of the stock faring. EXCEPT, the stock faring alone allowed the air to hit you in the chest, now riding in 40 degree weather, the air hits right in the throat, just under the helmet (I'm 5'8"). So, anyone looking at doing this, do it. Except, before you finish the install, buy some longer bolts, longer upper spacers and angle that windshield more upright to send that air up over your helmet. Also, you are only mounting to plastic, so modify that backing bracket so it fits behind the faring to support the wind resistance that the windshield will now place on the faring.

Thanks for the comment Craig. Yeah, I did end up using longer bolts and spacers to push the top of the windshield forward to block more air. Easy change and helps a lot.

Great series of videos your doing for the klx 230. How did the windscreen change the airflow? I did the same mod on my wr250r using a Parabellem screen and thought it added turbulence. I've recently sold
@OldManMotoAdventures

It basically pushes the wind from my chest to my head and around my shoulders. A bit more comfortable at high speeds now. I also don't feel like I could be blown off back of the bike with a big gust of wind. It's not perfect, but I like the small size compared to the huge universal fit ones. Thanks for the comment!

I recently sold the wr and have been looking at the klx230. I'm a long time rider and just miss having a dual sport bike. Have you been happy overall with performance and quality of the klx230. I really enjoy building up a bike like your doing: I'm thinking bars, grips, foot pegs, skid plate.....and soon. Thanks

Thanks for the comments Rory! I really like to KLX230 for it's size and weight. Plenty of power for me as I don't planing on running on the freeway much at all. So far it's been the perfect bike for trail running, two track, gravel/dirt road, and overnight camping. I hope to post some moto camping videos soon.

It also looks like I see a low Seat Consepts seat. Must be easier to touch ground. I'm 5-11 and had one on my wr. I thinking the klx has a lower height and should be fine for me. Your thoughts...
@OldManMotoAdventures
3 жыл бұрын
The seat definitely helped with getting more contact on the ground, but not as much as I thought it would. Mainly because it's also wider which limits straitening out your legs. But the comfort is so worth it. I looked at the WR but ta 5'7 and 30" inseam I was looking at the lowered seat and a lowering link.

Hello! i was wondering if you could let me know a little bit on how your installed your handguards onto the bike? Ive actually ended up buying the acerbis guards just like what i see in your video here and well im a bit confused on how to install the throttle side of it. Would you be able to give me a bit of guidance?
@richmondprofinishes

You nhave to cut the end of the throttle and grip to slide the piece in the bars.

Interesting. Are you only using the bike as a street bike? I don't think I would want to fall forward on that shield. I also notice that you don't have a pad on the cross brace. I'm curious as to why you didn't chose the Versys 300.
@OldManMotoAdventures

Hi Dave. Thanks for watching! I mostly ride on the road and on forest roads. No real dirt biking for me. I chose the KLX as kind of a starter bike for ADV. Next bike will be something like a KTM 390 ADV or a Versys 300. The overall weight was one of the main concerns when it came to picking a first off road bike.

Did you come have any problems with the handguard install? I've seen quite a few videos about the klx models having an insert inside the handlebar. Not easy to get out? Any thoughts? Thank you.
@OldManMotoAdventures
2 жыл бұрын
Hey. Thanks for watching. It did take quite a bit of adjustment on the left side to get everything to line up. would be much easier with an aftermarket bar. As far as the insert it was a bit of work, but nothing that can't me done. I think I cut it out slowly.

Hey and thanks for watching. Are you asking about using pop rivets to hold the windshield on? If so I used the bolts and spacers so I can adjust the shield up and down to find the sweet spot.

Thanks for watching. I'm not sure about the new headlight design. I guess you could see if the headlight plastics have the same exterior dimensions. If so it would work. Good luck!

Looks good might consider doing this👍.now the real question how the hell did you get your hand guards to fit? My cross bar was in the way where the brackets needed to be, so I upgraded my bar it’s the same overall length but the grip part is shorter now my levers are in the way 😂.
@OldManMotoAdventures
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The hand guards were a bitch to put on no doubt. I basically had to loosen everything to get the guard brackets under the crossbar and the move everything back into place. I don't think everything is in the stock position, but it seems to work out fine.

Just bought a 230, little screen would be nice! However, I'm think'in Velcro
@OldManMotoAdventures
3 жыл бұрын
Hey Randy! Thanks for watching. I think velcro would work for the bottom mounting, but the upper mounting requires the windscreen to be pushed out more than the headlight cover. In fact I made larger spacers to push the top out even further to push the wind higher up. Good luck!
@MrDavidfuchser

does this make the air at helmet level more turbulent, increasing noise?
@OldManMotoAdventures
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment David! I think it lessens the turbulence around the helmet, but does not delete it. I mainly wanted to push the air from hitting me square in the chest. As far as noise goes I would say it's about the same. In my case I think a better helmet would help with wind noise.
