Learning how to handstand has been a lesson in failure for me, I'm a few days short of completing 365 days of continuous HS practice and can maybe balance freestanding for 20secs 1 attempt out of 10.

Nice tips, thanks. I would add something that Tapp Bros emphasise (which is implied by what you taught here, but not stated directly...): focus on keeping your weight centered on the area of your palms under your knuckles -- leaves you with ability to press one way or the other (fingertips or heel of palm) around that balance point. Very much like your 2nd corrective balance approach by opening/closing shoulders (planche movement with angle of arms to upper body) -- nobody really talks about this, will give it a try. There is a guy at KTS Fitness who has got some good exercises (stomach facing wall) that include one that is a planche with arms followed by pulling the feet off the wall -- teaches muscle and coordination to pull you from falling toward your stomach side (pretty much all my balance problems involving falling in that direction)

@marianagoulart196
5 жыл бұрын
Everyone starts with a wall and the only way to get rid of it is learning how to balance AND how to fall safely. I'm still on that level. I try to practice handstands facing a wall with some pillow or mat behind me and then slowly try to balance it with one leg lifted. If I start to lose balance I have some options: I can tuck my chin and roll over, I can try to do a twist and "fall" in a flip like he does in the video or I can fall on a cartwheel, but got to be really warm beforehand. Look for Gabo Saturno's channel, he has some great videos on handstands progressions.
@hmatpin
5 жыл бұрын
@@marianagoulart196 sure. I also don't do handstands facing the wall because when you get closer to the wall there's a big risk of falling over and doing a whole body slam. It's good to know there's other people with similar issues in their calisthenics journey
@princekhanna884
5 жыл бұрын
Had the same issue! The only solution you have is to learn to fall. I had been stuck on the wall for months as I feared falling over, but you gotta fall to get that fear out of your mind. What I suggest is to do handstand a little away from the wall but close enough so you can still save yourself if you fall; try to fall voluntarily when you are upside down, lifting one hand etc, which will teach you to save yourself from falling dangerously. Once you've got that covered, start attempting handstand in an open space and with few attempts, your fall will be much smoother. It took me 3-4 sessions to go from stuck-on-the-wall to freestanding attempts by doing this. Hope it helps!
