Really surprised that the guy has loose clothing around that machine.

Good point. Didn’t even think about that while he was re-balancing the driveshaft. Side note, I still have a vibration. 🤦♂️

Did you find your vibration culprit? I’m about to check my driveshaft as well , I’ve rebuilt the front end with good parts and also the rear with good parts. Used 2 sets of good rims and tires , wheel bearings . The last thing on my list is rear axles and the driveshaft .

We did and it’s still right. Initially the weight was on the wrong side but hen the shop installed another half shaft and there’s still a vibration. To be honest, I’m going to install a new driveshaft, erghhh

The rear poly subframe bushings you installed and cut/grooved out on top why did you do that again? I don’t think it’s your rear diff bushing, I’ve had a condor poly diff bushing, center support bearing, New Guibo, all condor poly bushings in front I installed them all new myself a year ago and no issues, and have had 2 different sets of wheels for her and no vibration issues. Randomly recently I developed a similar one you talk about in your videos not that bad though. I have her all apart now and double checked everything and nothing broke cracked or has excessive play except my rear subframe oem bushing slightly torn, angle of my driveshaft was off a few degrees from the subframe bushings. You can measure angle pitch which can be affected from subframe bushings. I put new poly ones in today. I live in Gilbert AZ do you recommend this shop? Going to get the shaft balanced. Also do you know if they can replace and tack weld the non serviceable u joints?

Hey! Thanks for watching. Good question: the notch is to keep the bushing centered and from twisting within the subframe. The bushings came like that. I think you’re right, the diff bushing isn’t that he culprit though it it is magnifying the vibration. I never want to bash a brand or company, but this happened on another driveshaft as well. I restored a car for someone and had the same problem. Considering the hassle, the drives from Tucson, and persistent vibration, I would in the future buy a new driveshaft. Given the drive and hassle, a new driveshaft was barely more money. I believe they are between $900 and $1,000. I believe the driveshaft from the shop was around $650. Perhaps they have the issues sorted out, but I’d go with a new driveshaft. I hope this helps. Thanks again for watching.

@the drivers apex, no not for the notches that came already cut on the inside of the cylinder of subframe, didn’t you cut / grind the top lip of them? When installing of the poly bushing. That’s what I was referring to. Only other thing I can think of is the U-Joints but I have yet to find a shop who will tack weld in a U joint

@@kylefisher9469 now I remember, it’s been a minute. Yes, those are CaTuned poly bushings. I talked to Igor and he told me that the bushings had to be modified. I’m not sure if that’s the cause. I know that I had the vibration before switching to poly. My driveshaft had bad u-joints (never felt a vibration) and then a rebuilt driveshaft brought never ending vibrations. I honestly think buying a new driveshaft is the fix. Erghhh

@@thedriversapex Ahh that is interesting on the poly and before you did that the vibration was present still. This does kind of rule that out pretty much, but I still at least for myself with condor poly bushing have not heard of these cuts, maybe it a ca tuned thing based on design. If you have tried swapping the rear wheels already and verified that’s not the cause then yea I think your on the right track with culprit being possible driveshaft. I am actually going to put my old one back in and follow the specs from Bentley manual for the install and see how she rides. I’ll let you know if it’s gone. When I re installed mine same positioning the first time I didn’t realize all the required extra steps that seemed ridiculous to me in the manual. Like moving it forward .234 inches then torque to this and some other stuff

@@thedriversapex I am assuming you followed the Bentley manual procedure for the re install, but if you want some photos let me know I’ll send them over from my service manual. It’s about 6-8 pages specifically for just driveshaft which includes 2 pages of possible causes for vibration on the shaft

Do you know what made the driveshaft go off balance?
@thedriversapex

Hey, thanks for watching. The weight was placed on the wrong side. Once it was placed on the correct side the driveshaft rotated much smoother. I still have a vibration and I’m trying to source it. The shop suspects either the poly diff bushing or a tire/wheel. Those are my next things to check.

@@thedriversapex so they came wrong from factory? Sorry if it was covered in another video but you seem to be one of the few people that addressed driveshaft balancing issues for bmws. Im chasing down a vibration on my e46 and I found out that its not the driveshaft but my transfer case sounds pretty bad so that's next for me. Did you check bearings on your trans or diff side?

did it ever get fixed ? currently going through this and spending hundreds on parts trying to chase it out
@thedriversapex

Sadly, no. The shop tried and could never fully get the driveshaft to balance. Up to about 80, it’s fine, and then afterwards it gets pretty shaky. I’m certainly going to remove the poly diff bushing and I’d imagine that will resolve even more of the vibrations. I think the only fix is a new bmw driveshaft, erghhhh. I’m sorry you’re spending lots of money to resolve your vibration. I hope that you’ll solve it soon. Thanks for watching!!!
