FYI, for 9mm bullet stabilization will occur at 1:14. 1:7-1:10 wont generally stabilize just about anything. great video though!

Howdy, I'd like to firstly apologize for the extremely long reply time, I've been working through some things so I'm sorry about that. However, I would like to thank you for pointing that out! I went around a couple of different forums trying to get an idea whether or not that twist rate would work and was generally told that a 1:7 to 1:10 should do the job but I'm certainly no gunsmith haha.

in solidworks: just make a hole in a tube, draw a line in the center along the tube, draw your groove dept on the side. Make a helix around the parameter of the hole, and make a swept cut. Clone patern around a drawn circle thats on the side of the tube, and done... Its that simple!

How often do you do a left hand twist, typically barrels are right hand International twist. Left is Enfield!
@WesJohnson3D
3 жыл бұрын
I just turned it left without really thinking about it. However seeing the 3D printed gun community I could see alot more left hand twist barrels coming about in the future.

How would you account for a different twist rate? Like so you rotated 36degree every 1 inch for a 1:10 twist rate so how much would you rotate for a 1:48 twist rate?
@LAFO-es5xt
10 ай бұрын
Simply convert the rate, if it's 1 rotation every 48 inches, it'll rotate 7.5 degrees because one rotation is 360 degrees. 360/48 basically.

How do you switch from English to metric units?
@WesJohnson3D
4 жыл бұрын
I think you mean empirical to metric but you can change that in your preferences. Click your name in the top right, click preferences, and in the default units drop down you can set your design units to metric.

Jeez, I'm just switching from solidworks to fusion and with every step I was only thinking "this can't be the only way, it's too much of a hassle". In solid this is literaly 3 steps: Sketch>Spiral>Swept. Damn overpriced software.
@jerryudonneedtoknow3903

I've used both software for a while and I can say this, there aremultiple methods you can use, you just have to find a way to do them, some easier, some harder, some longer, some shorter. To be honest found a method to make the rifling using the coil or whatever tool it's was, I just forgot cuz it's not like I use it often.

Don’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth but 🤬 I wasted 3 hrs of troubleshooting before I took out the fillets. You can’t just breeze over critical details like selecting profiles vs center.
@WesJohnson3D
4 жыл бұрын
Sorry that the fillets gave you so much trouble man, I practiced this method about 6-7 times before recording the tutorial and never ran into any issues such as that. I'll note that down so I hopefully won't make that mistake in future tutorials. I'm a little stagnant because of work but I've got a list of tutorials I'm going to try and get recorded sometime soon.

@@bryceallen1334 I appreciate you as well, I can see where you're coming from, and its worth talking about so future tutorials and explanations can be even better. Though I practiced several times, this tutorial was really me trying to do it as quickly, cleanly, and concise as I thought possible, but interactions like this help me find where the correctable faults are.

Very interesting but the author is obviously very skilled using fusion. Many viewers will not be so skilled or familiar with the software I'm certainly not so this video is not that useful.
