As someone who has been living with a severe mental illness and addictions for all of my adult life, I sincerely thank you for this video. I am making the best of my current situation, stable on meds for 7 years, sober for nearly 6 years, lost and kept off nearly 100 lbs, living independently in the community. These are big accomplishments for me but I realize to many I may look like a loser. Poor, no job, no family, no friends. But, I am genuinely happy these days focusing on my health and wellness. I enjoy my simple stress free life. I know fate dealt me some bad luck but I don’t believe in the victim mentality. We need to find success on our terms, no one else’s. Love this channel!

That's actually deeply rooted in psychology. It is a survival tactic that we develop from infancy to be conscious of what others think of us so that we are in tune with their emotions. Being in agreement with another human being always comes as a benefit to you because it ensures you that you will have their support and protection for when you feel endangered. We are social animals. We depend on the aid and companionship of others to help us live healthier and safer lives.

@@justanothermortal1373 I am definitely not disagreeing with you, its the opposite, what you are saying is pretty much a fact. The issue I have is that even though its deeply rooted inside us and basically became part of 'human nature', does it mean there is no alternative satisfying way of living? Training your brain (not completely conciously like some sort of exercise) so that it overtime doesn't seek approval anymore? Because lets be honest, in this day and age its far less important than in the age of tribes. I would like your opinion on it!

This life IS about getting approval, ofc you can live on your own but will you be happy? Why do you think everything is divided into VIP and ordinary? Because VIP makes other people jealous, so make you feel superior. Why do you think superstars and models are earning so many money? Because of the approval. Why do you think scientists get Nobel prize because of the approval of other scientists. Why do you think some people rise in their career? Because of the approval of others.

From their cars to their phones and even their entire college education. As for me, I grew up in a broken home. My mother is mentally ill and murdered my father. I was also homeless at the age of 18 and was unable to get any funding for college until I was 24 years old from the government. My cousins work great jobs and get paid twice as much as I do, where I currently work as a janitor and I am still in college. Fate plays a huge role in people's lives. I stopped caring about anyone else's opinion when I realized that not only do they mock you for your current situation, they also mock you for trying to change it. The classic example is the fat guy at the gym. He is an object of ridicule both for merely being fat as well as actively trying to improve. I think humans are like crabs in a bucket. They hate to see anyone better than themselves and want to pull them down if they get any upward mobility. Why would you even spend the energy to notice the opinions of such miserable creatures?

Reality is that most people at the gym are the people who would not mock a fat person. Most would gladly help and give advice. It’s the other fat people who holdes each other down. @@tatuira93 Only losers mock people who are having mental issues or health issues. My experience is also that alot of fit people have been fat before. And i also know alot of formerly fit people who have become fat. And who need to go back to the gym and face they`re fears. And the main fear is that the world is mocking them or is caring about them. But my main point is that well yes people can see that they are fat. And maby they even think they are losers. That is inside they`re minds. But at the same time the same person is most likely worried about how the world percives them!. This is what they are thinking about most of the time. And this is included alot of people who are super fit, who have body dysmorfic symtoms. Alot of healthy good looking people are also self obsessed and use money on plastic surgery and hate they`re own looks. Mocking and hating on others is a sure sign of narcissism and low self-esteem. We all have our own struggles and demons to face. The fat people should feel pride that they went to the gym, it takes courage to face once own mental illness and fear. From my 44 years of life experience I saw that "all who you know, not what you know" be a massive enabler for success. The extroverted person who socializes a lot and has a massive collective of people surrounding them would have an upper hand in regards to success, as they know how to talk and use charisma with people. I'm from Indonesia. I really appreciate of how realistic this video is. Very rarely especially nowadays we can even see the concepts of 'fate' & 'luck' being honestly and critically discussed today, because most people just prefer the simplistic optimism bias (or toxic positivity), including on meritocracy, while ignoring a lot of the harsh truths, facts, & reality.

It's weird because traditionally our culture and religion used to give much value on the concept of luck and fate, like "narimo ing pandum" from java, or "everything is will of God" from Islam (and I think other 5 religions too). So sometimes I wonder, when or why these concepts were fading away. Because the modern concept of believe doesn't fit perfectly with our society's trait. Like, Indonesia generally are coming from agriculture society. We rely so much in weather, nature, all things beyond our control. In other words, we are determined so much by luck and fate. But suddenly in modern era, we are forced to believe that everything happens to ourselves, career, health, relationship, life... all are becaused of ourselves, our will, our hardwork only. No luck, no privilege whatsoever. This is too much to handle by our tipical humble eastern culture. You're right. We need to bring up again the conversation about luck, fate, and stop too much blaming ourselves for everything happens. Anyway, it's good to see a fellow citizen in the middle of this randomness internet.

While relating to her my insecurities, she replied, "Well, I think the thing about life that you have to accept is that there will always be people who are better than you. Better looking, better liked, wealthier and more successful. But the tragedy isn't that you aren't as good or will never be as good but it's that you think that just because you are not *as* good as them, it means that you're no good at all. So just focus on being the best that you can be because I promise that you will never not be enough." Her words changed my perception of everything.

No. Even a tree tries to be a full fledged tree so yes all humans are striving to become the best versions of themselves. But as Einzelganger said the success doesn’t always depend on hard work…… external circumstances stances has to a lot to do with it. Therefore even after trying ur best to live a satisfying or a full fledged life if people call u a loser then their opinions shouldn’t affect you. I think this was the message “ to not care so much of what people think of you as u r already winning” than anything else.

I don't care what others think of me, i am not an asshole and i try to be kind and compassionate. I am free of strangers' gaze, i don't have to pretend to be someone that i am not in order to impress someone to get something out of that person, i don't have to court because i don't look for sexual interaction and i still feel good. At least you have those 4 friends. I just have one, 2000 miles away. I don't physically live with parents, but my dad does cover all my expenses. The rest of my family is scattered around the country, I rarely speak with them, just text messages every so often. I used to 'thrive' in solitude. But then as my body has aged, doing things like playing video games has become painful due to ergonomic strain injury. I'm over 50, my eyes are starting to go bad on me (maybe from looking at a monitor too much). So what was once my favorite thing, using the computer, has become extremely frustrating. I may not be obese, but maybe because that's because I smoke cigarettes like a chimney. (talk about something the world points at and screams "LOSER!") I'm too deeply addicted to cigarettes to quit, most can't get their head around the level of my addiction. I'm a heavy chain smoker. I'd be more likely to quit if I had a better social life, any time I had been inspired to quit it was in the past, when I was more social. But now, being so alone in life, never married, no kids, no retirement funds... I'm kinda hoping these cigarettes will do what they are said to do. Why would I want to stick around extra years. It's getting tougher and tougher to go on. I'm falling apart and there isn't much hope. And the world will just blame me for all my failures, but they are right, it was all my dumb decisions that led me here, and I am outcast and exiled for being a 'loser'. :( I'm not a happy one.

Only to end up working even longer hours with more stress, more pressure, which results in a lowered quality of life. People are fooled into thinking that a fancy sounding job title and moderate rise in pay is the definition of success, but it's not. Quality of life is the definition of success. Creating a balanced life, one which affords you more time with friends and loved ones, one that doesn't cause you crippling worries and stress, is a life that deserves the designation of success.

Our market value and bank balance decides success, not the quality of our work, or whether our work creates any value in the world . The most ‘successful’ people in the modern definition then are CEOs of Fortune 500 companies!!🙃 Those who cause the most destruction to the environment, grossly abuse human rights (in developing countries) & exploit workers by working them to the bone for poor wages are the most successful among us.🤷🏻♀️

As long as you breathe, you've succeeded in life; as being alive, is all that life intended for you. You are successful in the eyes of life itself, you're successful in the eyes of something much, MUCH bigger than society, something much more real. Will you believe in the lies of something so pathetic and small? Or the truth that something so big and real is telling you all the time, every second you are here, RIGHT FUCKING NOW? With every breathe you take.

It seems to me that every time I tried to step outside my allocated place in life I got smack back into line by Providence. In 2019 I finally managed to get out of my Night Shift job; I switched to days and 6 months later I was offered a Junior Manager Position. I decided to get in shape and participate in a 54mile charity hike. A month later COVID hit and everything did a full 180. My workplace closed and even though I found another job I was back at the bottom. In 2021 I decided to end my lifetime of loneliness and found a GF. I ended up betrayed and it cost me 8 months of trauma and one of my closest friendships. In 2023 I decided to get in shape; ended up developing debilitating OCD and being unable to go anymore. So I've just decided to stay inside my little hole and, as Dostoevsky writes in Notes from the Underground, settle in it.

I broke up with my GF recently. I was and still am upset about it to a degree. We lived together for 2 years. Not exactly a long time but she was really my best friend, and I thought we would always have each others back until her demeanor slowly started to change, which I can see now happened for various reasons. She convinced me to move out, and since I just want her to be happy and I've accepted what has happened, I put 90% of all my stuff in a cheap 5x5 storage unit and have been sleeping on my moms couch and living out of a duffle bag for about a month now. But I'm actually pretty happy. I'm not disgruntled or filled with resentment. I'm more content than I have been for a long time. Yeah I'm sleeping on a couch but at least its a place to sleep that's warm. I have food, and I'm around people who care about me. My perspective on life changed very quickly, and I realized all the things right in front of me that I was neglecting, like family, good friends, my physical and mental health, and the little pleasures we all take for granted. This video came into my feed at a good time. Maybe I am a loser based on trivial (and some cases toxic) social norms, but who cares. I have faith in myself to do what is right and I've really stopped caring about what people think unless it's someone who's opinion really matters to me. It's nice to know I'm not the only one, even though I want everyone to do better and be their best self.

I really wish I could have seen videos like this when I was younger. As an autistic and introvert, I was always shamed for being “boring”, not talkative enough, not doing enough, “weird”, and once I got into my teen years that’s when it really messed with my mental health and self esteem, and I began living my life in pretence and forcing myself to do things I genuinely didn’t want to do in order to be “normal” and considered “interesting”. Then also had parents who put on a lot of pressure to have that typical “success” of university degree, impressive job, etc., but I know that was based on their own life regrets. I’ve battled anxiety and feelings of never being “enough” or “normal” for years, including the struggle of easily becoming overstimulated which just makes me totally shut down. When I think back to when I was at my happiest, it was at a time before I let society’s pressures get to me and I was just being myself and enjoying it: I love quiet, routine, good books with a cup of tea, piano, and doing art especially, just for the enjoyment of it. I love being alone especially and don’t understand that need for constant company or noise.

Man am I glad to have this video randomly pop up in my KZitem feed. You could say that I'm just figuring out how to be a "happy loser" without even realising that it's a thing and it's possible. I am a believer that life and people are constantly changing, so any circumstance that is befallen someone or that someone currently experiences, isn't permanent. So to have a mentality expecting change and accepting current circumstance (even if they aren't befitting of once dreams/goals), is an important thing to cultivate. I feel like everyone will be a loser in their life at some point, because that's just how life can be, unpredictable & ever changing. So it's up to us to change our mentality, adapt to the situations as best as possible and never stop looking out for an opportunity for change/the next shift.

I think it's important to know that being a loser is a mindset and you can only be a loser if you believe you are. If you are happy with your life and feel like you have won in the game of life then you can't be a loser. It's also important to know that being a loser now doesn't mean you have to be a loser for the rest of your life. You can make choices now that turn your life towards a direction that makes you feel like a winner. Those choices will often require hard work and involve a lot of discomfort but if you are willing to push through it, you can win

You did this and everyone will call you that.) I always feel like taking the bad guy's side when everyone else is calling him a loser for being a certain way. Like the song by Beck: "I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me?" I see that as a kind of challenge... You can make some mistake in life and have everyone gang up on you but when you say "OKAY!
