I know that's probably really hard. I have a job to help with money and I'd recommend you get a job but it's soo hard at 14 to get a job because the hours are so limited and not many places will hire ugh! Try looking at different schools and explaining your situation, they may be more generous than you think.

I am 14 and looking to start ballet. Beyond the age of around 5 I haven’t stepped foot into any kind of dance studio however I think ballet is such a beautiful art form and I’m desperate to learn. I have done a lot of research and cannot find any classes made for beginners near me and I feel that at my age, if I joined a class full of girls of the same age I would be a total fish out of water and struggle a lot. Because of this I was considering finding a tutor that could give me one on one lessons (which would have to be over webcam for the time being for obvious reasons) as I feel they could teach me the basics in a non-pressured environment and help me develop enough to catch up with everyone else. Does anyone have any advice or feel that this is a bad decision? Thanks :))
@kelseyanne13
4 жыл бұрын
When I started they put me in a class one level below most girls my age, (the girls were only 1-2 years younger) and I ended up catching up quickly and now I'm in the highest level at my studio :) so don't worry about it, they'll want you to dance no matter your skill. That being said, if you can take lessons before that would help you a lot and probably make you feel more confident so if you're able to, do it 100% :)

@@kelseyanne13 Hi! I don't think you'll respond to this, but, I am starting ballet on Tuesday, with girls around 1 year younger than me. Honestly, I knew I wasn't going to be placed with girls my age immediatley with such a lack of experience, but it can always be stressful knowing you may be the oldest there. This comment was so reassuring, considering I've been binge watching ballet terminology, and what to expect. This video has helped sm! Thank you

The point of the full soles(you called them “one soles,”) is to provide resistance so the foot strengthens when you point it. If you’re a beginner, get full-soled shoes unless your teacher tells you otherwise. Full sole is to strengthen the foot for beginners, split sole is for more advanced dancers who want to make their arch look prettier.

Just came across your channel today!! I was looking into “17 & starting ballet” videos haha. I came across your very first video & then I just looked through all the rest of your videos & I subbed! I have wanted to be a ballerina since I was 13 but for reasons, I still haven’t started. You inspired me so much already & have made me even more excited for whenever I am able to start. I just always think about how I’m 17 & wanna start ballet. It makes me nervous to think about because I’m sure I’ll be a bit older, a beginner with no experience but again, I am excited nevertheless. Keep up with your videos ♡I also needed some motivation & your videos gave me a boost. ♡

@@Elodie2023 well! My instructor is kind and patient, and seeing how there is a bit of a reputation with some harsh/strict teachers in the ballet world, I really appreciate it lol. I am obviously struggling a bit to catch up to the others, that’s just the way it’s gonna go starting mid year. also I learned that at least in my area the more advanced students still stay in lower level classes on top of the higher ones, so that also contributed to how behind my classmates I am. But practice helps a lot, I recommend if you’re just starting to go over the moves and exercises you’ve learned in class again a few times at home to speed up the process. Last thing I’ll say is yes, being 17 you will definitely be older, the ones in my class are in middle school or freshman, maybe one sophomore (and my instructor is actually a classmate!) but don’t let that discourage you. It may be a bit uncomfortable at first but hey, no reason to leave something you could be loving! I approached this comment as you possibly going into class for the first time as well but that may not be you lol. Good luck to everyone in ballet journeys!

That’s why I quit when I was 8/9 years old. I’m looking into studios that offer ballet up to 2 hours away from me (I’m going to a studio an hour and a half away for jazz and tap, so it’s not much of a stretch, sadly they don’t offer ballet classes). Hi beautiful!! I'm so excited that you want to start ballet. And yes unfortunately there isn't a ton of diversity in ballet at the moment but it's been improving so so much in recent years. My favorite ballerina is Michaela DePrince and she is a black ballerina. (I read her book and I absolutely loved it, it was all about her story of being a black dancer) there's also Misty Copeland and she's super well known! Anyways, yes there's a chance you might be the only person of color in your class but they will be so happy to have you! You'll meet girls there and make friends quickly. In recent years I've danced with some asain and some other ethnicities and they were treated just like everyone else. I know there's some difficult people but be the one who changes the world. You got this! And as far as the tights go, I know it's not ideal for you since the color of the tights is supposed to match you (my studio has the same dress code) but a fun fact, companies are beginning to make pointe shoes in different shades so I think very soon people will begin wearing tights that match along with shoes. Until then, take class and be the change that makes ballet even more diverse. Good luck I'm sure you'll do amazing. ((And seriously your should read the book "Taking Flight" by Michaela DePrince))

2 years ago I wanted to start dancing, I had no experience so I went to a trial lesson, when I was there they just did what they always did, the teacher demonstrated a difficult step once and everyone could do it. But of course I had no idea how to do it, they did a whole choreography during 10 minutes. After that, everyone lined up and one after the other they practiced a certain jump, but I had no idea how to do this jump and no one had shown it to me. At the end of the lesson the teacher came to me and told me that I was too bad for the class and that I should not continue (it was a beginner class). This destroyed all my self-confidence and since then I have panic to sign up for dance classes anywhere.

The problem is I recently had an ankle ligament injury and I don't know if I should start sooner or later. I spoke to my doctor and he said I could start after 2 weeks and my ankle would be strengthened better than before because ballet does work extensively on your ankles. However, I feel like waiting longer might reduce risk of another injury. I still have time to choose a teacher or studio. Do you have any advice for me?
@kelseyanne13
9 ай бұрын
Definitely start with the recommended time of your doctor, I would also do some gentle exercises and stretches to strengthen your feet and ankles prior to starting any classes. There's a lot on KZitem you can find. Just go slow and reach out to studios and inquire about starting lessons and explaining to them your injury. Take some time and heal and ease into it, you have time so do not worry!

Keep strong. Dont forget that despite the evil in this world, God is full of justice, mercy and love. Justice said we broke His perfect law - causing the world's previous perfection to be destroyed - and therefore we deserve Hell (like a punishment in any legal system but this is eternal as His perfect law is eternal too). Don't think you fit in that category? Ever done one of these?: lying, stealing - regardless of how small the object EVER, hating others - which is murder in God's perfect law, lusting (plus God sees our entire thought life). Justice says "the soul that sins shall die" - if we break one in thought/word/deed it's as if we're guilty of all of them. Quite simply, living by the law (which is doing everything perfectly) is impossible for sinful humans . The law shows us that 1. We will die in Hell if we fail to follow it and 2. We cannot save ourselves BUT, 3. God's perfect, immovable law points us to Christ, who followed and fulfilled the law in thought, word and deed perfectly in our place. He did what we couldn't and did it on our behalf. He was then sentenced to death on a cross, and took our personal punishment for our sin, paying our penalty (like paying our fine) completely FOR us, and has given us freedom. If we turn from the sins we have committed and repent (pursue the opposite direction of love through Christ) He will, overtime, recreate us back into that previously perfect image through The Holy Spirit which Jesus sends to all who accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior of their life. It's not about following the law - perfectly, as it's impossible - it's about letting Christ in to guide and teach you and obeying Him through His power (not ourselves as it's impossible without depending on His power and instruction). He is our substitute in His life, death and resurrection. He essentially rewrote history in our place so that, if you believe in Him, it will be as if you had never sinned if you accept Christ's death as our own in our place. He is in Heaven right now preparing a place for us so that He can take His faithful, believing children home with Him when He returns. He will ressurrect us from death when He returns, giving mercy to those who accept His love, instruction and teachings in their life, and give justice to those who refuse it. He doesn't want ANY of us to go to Hell and die for continuing in evil and rejecting His way to life, thats why He died FOR us. Hes giving EVERYONE a chance, He wants everyone to take the free gift of salvation from Hell. He wants us to be His and begin to follow His life of love and service through His power and abiding (staying) with Him. So long as we keep our hearts near to Christ through His strength, strive to follow His will of perfect love revealed in the Bible, and let Him lead in the midst of (very certain) pitfalls and struggles, we will, in time, win the ultimate victory over sin, pain and DEATH through Christ. Even if you are willing to be made willing, pray for Jesus to come in and He will do what we can't. Give us The Holy Spirit who will guide us in the right way. NOTE: You are NEVER too sinful or messed up that God cannot turn your life around through Jesus. EVER. Regardless of what you've done or what you're going through you CAN make it through Jesus. If you have any questions let me know xxx

I am a bit on the chubby side but with my diet and exercise I have started reducing a lot so also I feel like I wont be able to do ballet but then I remember that all ballet professionals started from somewhere and it definitely wont be easy. It invloves a lot of commitment. I havent started yet because I just want to know I am mentally ready.

hi there! so I'm 21, dealing with various mental and health conditions like medical anorexia so I know that I can't develop the strong bones needed to train for my goal: going en pointe. I also suffer from bipolar and severe anxiety attacks daily with and without medication and therapy. it is too late to get accepted into any ballet academies because of my age right? I assume because I'm already old enough to have graduated normal college that it is. :/ I'm heartbroken that I didn't pursue ballet longer when I was younger, I gravitated towards gymnastics and loved it for years until my knees gave out and I began developing anxiety around people. :/ I had to quit and that was over 12 years ago. from your perspective, do you think (assuming I can get my health sorted out though it's been a 4 year journey) that I have a chance at starting at a beginning ballet level and working my way up? I hear the phrase "it's never too late", but it seems in terms of a career in ballet, it does become too late because of the years of training I missed out on. :/ I'd love to hear any of your perspective on this! I know I said a lot and can't expect you to have all the answers, but from one past athlete to another, do you think it's too late for me to achieve greatness still? thanks for reading if you do, I loved the informative video ❤️

the only thing that is stopping me from going to ballet classes is what i look like. i am 13 yrs old (girl) 5'1 and 111 pounds. i feel like i am too heavy to do ballet, and i feel like i am not going to "fit in" i just hate my body, and i wish i started ballet at a younger age so that i wouldn't be as big… and i have braces, dance is that thing that makes me happy, but i don't know how to look good while doing the thing i love.

I started ballet when I was 3 years old and stopped when I was 9 years old. I had to stop ballet because my family moved to Alaska. I’m beginning college in a few months and I’ve already registered to a ballet class. I’m so excited and nervous. This video definitely will help me prepare and remember what I’m doing.

Im starting ballet at newly 15, I literally know nothing about ballet barely even the positions, I feel like a total fish out of water at the studio and all the girls stare at me and whisper things because I don’t know much and have to sit out during some things :( I really hope to get better and I always pay attention during class. Wishing everyone else in a situation like this good luck and good health!!!

I have always wanted to dance ballet but I just leave it aside and don’t do it because I’m too old (15), but now I decided that I don’t care if I know nothing, or I’m too fat or if I’m too old, I’ll just start doing it. I might not know the language too well buy I’ll survive because this is a dream of mine.
