I want mine locked , not from bears but from my neighbors 😡 they act like don’t exist and fill my cans with their trash

Version one seems a bit better. V2 I'd be worried that the protruding part of the mending plates would be a safety risk to the waste collection people. Similar to this, I have made a way to secure the lids of my trash cans using 1/4 inch eye bolts. They are attached to the lip of the trash can slits are cut into the lid to allow the eye to pass through. Then carabiners are used to prevent the lit from opening. The carabiners are secured by short sections of chain that is mounted to the underside of the eye bolt, simplifying the installation. The smoother rounded tops of they eye bolts are far less likely to gouge or scratch the trash hauling crew. No way to 100% keep the bears out, its just a deterrent, maybe the bear will move on if the pickings are not easy enough. But I wanted to make something that was a bit safer.

Some waste services might refuse to dump your trash due to altered garbage containers. This can cause a safety issue and any employee in Canada can refuse service if deemed unsafe. Enquire before you add things to your containers.

I was keeping my trash can in the backyard. then the bear ripped my gate off, rip the paneling off my fence. These bears are assholes.

Just like every living being they must eat. In some way, they will get food any way needed.

@@michaelwilliams4428 Yea well, they were eating just fine. Thing is, now they're 600 + pounds because they rather eat trash. They didn't have a food problem.

So I just called my new Montana communities waste collection company...we have two resident grizzlies and many black bears in the “hood”...neighbors have the tagged 626 pound female grizzly on security camera footage just 3 houses down...the garbage company will not service bear resistant containers. How irresponsible is that! I am not here full time so if the bear makes a mess of trash how am I supposed to get it picked up?. They said to soak a sponge attached to the inside lid with ammonia to deter bears. I’m really disappointed as a fed bear is a dead bear and how can I leave on Sunday with waste in the bin when pick up isn’t till Thursday?

Try using ratchet tie down straps. Run one around the front and another ( if needed ) around the side. Bears will give up after awhile, at least our bears do.

Screw it to what? Plastic? Nope. My bear tore the back of the can apart. Ripped it at the hinge. Right though about the keep the can upright. A bear can is 300 at hd Crazy. Putem in a box and the drop a 2x4 arm across the top so they can't remove the can from the ground box. Park rangers do it all day in camp grounds.
