Keep in mind that pushers make you discover your weaknesses and make you become a better player for this reason. You need to beat them to become a true 4.5.

The fly in the ointment is what you mentioned at 12:30. You said “You want to get very, very comfortable with your continental grip.” One of the defining characteristics of a 3.0-4.0 player is poor to non existent “Continental Grip” strokes. They’ll try to push with semi western forehand grips and deep eastern backhand grips. Both of these grips naturally close the racket face. Since the vertical brush up component of the swing is missing when you push the ball they will tend to net balls. Also pushing low balls becomes very difficult because they rarely open the racket face on purpose and frankly lack the racket face awareness to do this in a match situation. It frankly comes down to lacking a basic cornerstone of advanced tennis that isn’t emphasized nearly enough. The use and mastery of the continental grip. Everything today is western this and semi western that! Modern grips! But one thing that hasn’t changed between players in the 50s,60s, 70s, and todays so called “Modern Players” is that they all used and still use the continental grip for just about every stroke except the topspin forehand and one handed topspin ground stroke. Take those two strokes out and todays pros technically are no different than the one’s playing in the 50s. And about 4-10 more inches in height. Unfortunately this fact is lost on todays rec players.

😂 the struggle to hit a topspin lob out, I wish I could struggle to hit out like that 😂 great instruction by the way, I always felt like that people say that I need to hit harder or come to the net and kill those points, but I just started playing tennis less than two years ago, and I was looking for ways to beat pushers with the tools I have at the moment, I can hit both topspin and slice, but I still don't have good volleys or the ability to hit winners. Just to be clear, I don't hate pushers. I just used to hate myself for not being able to problem solve that kind of play 😅.

Bahahaha..that is the mindset of many 4.0 men when playing high level pushers. I call it the Federer syndrome
