@@JoseDiaz-hu2pq what’s up bro. Focus on your physical fitness. Do a lot of running and CrossFit type workouts because that will prepare you for the academy and the job. Officer D I was a paramedic and a SWAT medic. The difference between an EMT and Paramedic is as follows. EMT is a secondary educational certificate. It takes about 3 months of 3 nights a week. Paramedic is a 2 yr college degree. Every paramedic was at one time an EMT. I can understand the confusion. In most states EMT’s can provide basic life support. Paramedic are trained to administer many different drugs to help a patient. Most people just call us Ambulances drivers, which is like calling a security guard a police officer. So for those thin skinned medics. Being call an EMT, is about the same as you being a security guard. Hope this helps with the confusion.

Being a LEO is very rewarding. I left the corporate world where I had been in management pretty much since I graduated college. At the age of 40 I decided to get into LE. With our department there were minimum 2-3 interviews, very very extensive background check (like 700 questions) which included a psychologist examination, then fitness test and a home visit. So it took about 6 week from applying to get hired. Then you eventually get an Academy start date which is usually 12 weeks (or at least in my state it is). If you graduate the academy there is FTO and then you are turned loose on your own. From start date until finishing FTO is about 9 months. I wake up now and look forward to going to work as I look at this as a career. I do agree that you need to make sure this is something you’re serious about and ALWAYS be honest.

I’m 17 and as of last year what it took me to realize that I want this job is my brother simply saying the words “I think you’d make a good detective/cop.” We were talking about his process of becoming a marine. I wanted to do entomology originally but something about it just didn’t click as much as helping the community. I sat there for a good solid minute thinking to myself. Idk why it was that, that all it took for me to realize that being a cop is definitely a good option for me. Over the year I’ve done plenty of research and sometimes things seems rlly confusing but I’m still 100% that this is the job I want.

I have a clean record, I've never been arrested in my life. I'm still in fairly decent shape and my health is pretty good, it could be better but I'm working on that. I want to work on a career path that allows me to advance in the field of investigating domestic terrorism, hate crimes, and other violent incidents like mass killings. I know those are very specific and grim topics, but that type of work is what I am most passionate about pursuing, because those types of crimes I feel are the ones that America should take priority in solving right now. I feel like my skills and talents could help bring justice to people who need it most. But I am lost. I don't have much confidence in myself to follow through and go for it... I did a ride along non career related, it was for a credit to graduate. I did ride along with York county regional police. I liked this ride along. I have been watching Bodycam and dashcam videos. I've also, had my Dad who is a retired Police Officer (1981-2006). After my College. I was gonna do the police academy in Florida and get all the requirements there. My goal department is Clearwater or Pinellas Park Police Department in Pinellas County, Florida. I want to get in contact with them. When I called them, I asked them, would I need a college degree, they said no, but it's recommended. So college degree it is. I think they hold the applications in person. If they do, what should I bring along aside from my Social security card, Driver's license and Birth Certificate. I also must say, when should I contact them about hiring and getting a ride along, etc.

Hello, I recently became a paramedic and had a main interest in firefighting but I starting to think my calling is law enforcement. Does being a paramedic have any application to law enforcement or could have any perks in the selection process ? Thanks !

I really would want to be a police officer after I retire the military but it seems like the times are crazy right now.. Seems like the police not even allowed to do their job

There's a number of memes floating around various social media sites claiming that all you need to be a police officer is three to four months of training, this of course is a grossly oversimplified statement passed around by cop-haters. First off there is no national standard for police training, standards and qualifications vary from state to state, but most are pretty similar. Now, while not standard for all, many will insist on at least a two year college degree (any major, though classes in Criminology or Forensic Science would be helpful) or four year Military service with an Honorable discharge. Then comes a lengthy application process and background check, assuming that goes well then you report to the Acadamy, that's the three to four month course the nimrods harp on though it really lasts anywhere between four weeks to six months depending on the state. After graduation the recruit becomes a Probationary Officer and is then assigned to a precinct where they're assigned to a Training Officer who'll mentor them in the details of proper police work while on the job, that lasts about one to two years depending again on the State and on the progression of the Proby. As Probies their employment tends to be fragile and they can be fired very easily if they screw up.
