Similar story for me. Came from Youth Ministry background. Got my foot in the door with a company part time. Then worked my way up getting to work on and with Agile teams. Eventually found myself in a Scrum Master role. Know the lingo! Such a cool story Daniel! Thanks for sharing.

I started out in high-tech then got diverted into "ministry" including missions then overseas non-profit work with refugees in Thailand. Now coming back to my old stomping ground, I find I'm very far out and pretty much irrelevant on my technical side. What I did become over 20 years away is a good leader, mentor and strategic thinker having had to overcome many challenges in life and work. Stumbling across the scrum master role seems like such a great fit!!! I'm doing my first course this week, look forward to doing more. Thanks for this 'testimony' ;) of a great transition. I look forward to a new career path. - subscribed!

I am currently working extra hours as a scrum master within the same organisation i am already working for with some apprentices on an exciting project within the tech world. The director is very excited about what they have achieved so far, I am however trying to move away from the part time extra work to become full time in an established role. Hopefully this will happen for me soon ❤️

Thank you very much for this, truly a valuable conversation as a transitioning elementary special education teacher (non-tech).🙏🏻 I’m going into my 3rd month of Scrum Master job searching so this was refreshing to hear the road map I’ve been following sounds similar, so my time is around the corner. I agree 💯 with everything you’ve said in preparation to becoming a Scrum Master. I would like to share a few additional things that I personally felt important because many posted positions have been “2-for-1”, Scrum Master/Project Manager, Scrum Master/Business Analyst, etc with requirements consisting of years of experience as an entry level. I’ve taken guided courses to help me learn tools such as (JIRA, Trello, Azure DevOps) to gain practice and experience with user stories, interpreting the various charts to understand possible impediments, etc. Recently, I’ve also started a course, intro to project management course to help me get an overall better understanding of the “why.” Thank you again!!!

I replied yesterday but my response never posted(?). The free tool courses were from Coursera and Atlassian also offers a free intro course for Jira too. Best of luck!

Great video! Here’s a topic I’d like to add to your backlog if it hasn’t already been discussed: remote control programming and how to remedy it. Our user stories are becoming more like detailed contracts which leads to the scrum team not even knowing the problem they are trying to solve.

This is what I needed as I'm beginning my pursuit to become a Scrum Master. Just finished a certification from Google in PM, this did spend some time on Agile. Where would you recommend I go next?

Ryan, I would love to hear your thoughts about how should the first 90 days of a new SM be like?
@milhaushd
Жыл бұрын
Hey Anna, I’m not Ryan, but I’ve been around the block here a bit. The first 90 days will vary from situation to situation, but in general it’ll start off with a lot of observing, listening, and building of relationships. You’ll want to start building trust first, before you try to change the world. Over time, you can take those observations to start guiding, providing new ideas and pitching them as experiments, etc. When you’re new to the role, especially if you don’t have a technical background, you need to tread lightly in order to gain respect.

@@milhaushd Hi Sean, I am completely new to Scrum Master coming from social Science background. I work with a Non Profit that supports children back to school as a social worker but would like to change career and be a Scrum Master. I have been watching videos and would take a course soon which I got through scholarship. Please do you mind mentoring/guiding me?

Thank you very much for all the valuable information! How long did it take in your case to land your first job since you started learning? The question is general and depends for each person, but just for me to have a notion of time.

Do companies practice inclusion when it comes to hiring in Scrum? I've had absolutely no success after two years of job searching. Am I wasting my time trying?

Hi Ryan, should a scrum master understand what the business is trying to obtain and also how the development team does it in order to help the team sometimes write or create user stories?
@AgileforHumans

Maybe?! -- I think potentially more important is for a Scrum Master to understand what is holding the Scrum Team back and how to fix those issues.
