You don't need a degree to get a development job, especially nowadays. They look for what you've done. Code samples you bring, previous experience, etc. Don't burn your money in school, teach yourself instead, and then prove yourself instead of letting a piece of paper talk for you. For me, I felt more fulfilled that I've become successful without needing a degree. I've saved thousands of dollars not going to a school/boot camp, there's tons of resources online to teach yourself any language and methodology for free.

@@SuperSimpleDev what would be good projects if you want to work in game dev? Is working on modding projects good experience or is it better to make your own games? I'm still exploring areas of software that I'd want to work on but games would be a dream, as many feel I'm sure. 😅
@SuperSimpleDev

@@kiverson794 Now I'm not an expert in game dev, but I think anything you can present really well is a good project. Modding is great, just make sure you can present it well with a playable demo or demo video, and share your code if possible. Also try making games to show you're versatile. Although, think of it like "mini-demos" rather than "full games", because people usually try your project for like 1 minute. So take your favorite games as inspiration and make 1 level/area/mission in that game's style (e.g. I like 3D and puzzle games). You'll learn a lot about your tools (e.g. Unity) by making a variety of differing styles. The graphics don't have to look amazing, just work with what you can find. And add features, improve graphics, bit by bit over time. (At the same time you can be applying for game dev jobs).

I think. Therefore I am. Great video. And lovely humans out there don’t be bogged down with the width and breadth and depth and length of it all. One thing at a time, one foot forward in-front of the other.. it will all start making sense. Don’t listen to the black and white contextual thinking .. learning is about exploration and not some rigid set of rules… with that being said be smart about problem solving.. learn how to learn.. more effectively.. learn how to search and what to search for… enjoy the process… enjoy the struggle… enjoy the experience and the chance to take life by the horns and make of it what you want. Take breaks and stay positive… keep on keeping on and it all fits and falls into place. Keep a child like mentality and a sponge like mind … there is no right or wrong way or path in this field especially! Just have fun and when it gets hard get serious about making it enjoyable! Attack from all sides and no matter what you will become exactly who you are meant to be with whatever attitude you have. For that’s all we have in life when it’s said and done. They can take it all away or give it all to us easily but what matters is your own personal perspective and that’s what’s going to contribute to the learning process and move you forward to that life you’ve always wanted to live. Smile and thank GOD that necessity is the means to invocation and start indicating a strategic and well structured plan of execution to destroy whatever topic it is that you want to learn. I hope someone out there gets excited and stoked when reading this. Because that’s what it’s all about. We’re all in this together. Remember … it’s the ones you have met and love that should motivate you and the ones that you are yet to meet that should always be in the forefront of your heart and mind… how you can contribute to their lives individually and uniquely… from all your heart. Hard work and effort will come an ability to bless and give to those all around you. Be generous with yourself and celebrate the small victories… that’s maturity and reward those who always believes in you… even if the only one to do so was your higher self… and of course and obviously the One who created and programmed you … GOD. Love One Another 🙏💕🐬🫡🔥💯🎯👌

In my opinion, a software engineering degree is preferred over a chemical engineering degree, but combine that degree with good coding skills that you learn yourself or from a bootcamp and you should be good 👍 keep in mind a lot of people going into a coding bootcamp have no engineering background at all, and I find that those who go in with an engineering background tend to have an easier time in general going through the bootcamp and getting a job afterwards

@@SuperSimpleDev This was my thought! i have taken a couple classes in my undergrad for Python and Java so I have a baseline of understanding plus the coding I did in high school with languages like .NET and Visual Basic. I was hoping I could get into a bootcamp to give me some additional skills from classes that I maybe would take if I went back into school for undergrad. Then pending need I could take that and get certificates with project work to buff up my resume for job interviews and or go into a masters program. I know there are always tons of different ways to get into different jobs/career paths. I'm in my mid 30's basically going through and revamping my career.

Those classes and languages you listed are really good actually. Also, you may want to try creating a portfolio of projects and apply for some entry level jobs first (to see if you get anything) before investing in more education. Otherwise, just a bootcamp (plus portfolio) is good enough. You generally don’t *need* a masters on top of that

I need advice! Here’s my situation. I have the opportunity to go to a 4 year college degree without having to pay out of packet! And I have the opportunity to go to a bootcamp without having to pay out of packet, is through workplace scholarship that will pay for my bootcamp! After the bootcamp, I have a high chance getting a job with the company that will pay for the bootcamp! Which path should I take? I have the time to pursue a computer science degree because am fresh high school graduate a year ago

It’s just my opinion, but probably bootcamp would be good in your situation if you want to get into the industry fast, after that work experience is really what matters. Besides if you change your mind and want the college experience later, you can also do it since bootcamp a are relatively short

Hi. I'm a 21 year old CS Bsc student from Hungary, I need to find work but I don't have a way to get intership. I've been programming in Unity and Godot since I was a kid so I'm good and I have multiple game projects to show off, like 4-6 but most of them are unfinished. I decided to make a "resume" website with all my skills and projects in it. css doesnt always want to cooperate, but it's looking good so far. Most companies here ask for a degree and 1-3 years of experience and almost all ask for tons of JavaScript frameworks which I didn't learn yet (but I know JS well). I want to attach that website and just send the CV to every dev company. Do you think it's a good idea? I see you still answer comments so I'd like to hear your opinion if you have time for it. I learn a lot from your videos, much love.

That’s a good idea! But I recommend to focus more on the presentation of your website & projects (companies only look at your website & projects for a minute or two before they make a decision so the presentation is actually more important). So design your website in a way that looks really nice and shows off your projects and your skills FAST. It’s like for my KZitem videos, I have a lot of info I can share, but I know people only watch for a few minutes so I try to give people the info they want right away instead of doing long intros and stuff

Can you make how to job hunt video? I'm really feeling burned out here
@SuperSimpleDev

I’ll try to make one in the future but currently don’t have the time to. The job hunt is pretty intensive though, especially for a first job so it’s normal and I hope you won’t give up. Make sure you have a strong project portfolio, and practice leetcode.com

Dude! Thanks for your hard work. This video was very informative. especially when you listed those projects examples. Quick question, pls; Do you think using the Wix platform to create those websites is like cheating or it's okay? Thanks!
@SuperSimpleDev

Thanks for watching! And yes, unfortunately Wix would be cheating. If a company is looking for someone to write JavaScript, Wix doesn’t provide them proof that you can do that. Hope that makes sense 🙂

What about WordPress then?
@SuperSimpleDev
3 жыл бұрын
@@arieltonton7946 same thing. Actually you can use Wix or Wordpress to create your personal website if you’re not interested in putting a lot of effort into that. But, you’ll need other projects to show you can code from scratch, which is what most software companies are looking for.

Sure, I think www.freecodecamp.org/learn has some pretty good curriculums. Here's an order I suggest: HTML, CSS, JS, ReactJS, command line, git, NodeJS, ExpressJS, mySQL, AWS, Webpack, Typescript, SASS, and Bootstrap. I'll put a video about this on my todo list

@SuperSimpleDev

Yup, you can make money from being a front end web developer. Usually you would work at a tech company and make/maintain their website for the company. These days, it's hard to make money if you are making websites for individuals or small businesses because they can do it themselves using Wordpress, Squarespace, Wix, etc.

How would you suggest starting a personal website? Using HTML and CSS from scratch or simply using online applications like Wordpress or Wix?
@SuperSimpleDev

I think it's useful to give it a try with HTML and CSS if you want to learn. Other than that, I think it's fine to use something like Wix (they have really nice templates) if you feel you don't like web design and you're backend focused
