What is Aircraft maintenance engineering?
An aircraft maintenance engineer could be an exciting career if you are looking for something different from the conventional engineering courses and medicines. AME is a niche course that mainly deals with maintenance, upgrades, and quality assurance of an aircraft. AME is the only licensed course approved by DGCA. it is a 3-year program. The main task of AME is to ensure the safety and protection of the passenger and aircraft. They are the heart and soul of an aircraft.
An aircraft maintenance engineer has the main job before the aircraft takes off from the runway. An AME has to sign on a certificate "Fit to fly", ensuring that the aircraft is in airworthy condition. Without the signature of an AME, any aircraft can not take off.
Types of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME)
AME courses are slightly different from other engineering courses as it has a total of 4 categories that is Category A, B1, B2, and C. we are going to look at Category B1.1 and Category B2.
B1.1 - (Aeroplane Turbine) -this category comes under Category B1 with mechanical students. Category B1.1 is a License holder to issue certificates for release to service following the maintenance performed on Aeroplane Structure, Turbine Engine, mechanical and electrical systems, work on avionics system requiring simple tests to prove their serviceability and not requiring troubleshooting.
Category B2 deals with avionics students with the main tasks such as maintenance on avionic and electrical systems. Avionics means the electrical, radio and radar, and instruments of an aircraft that are present inside an aircraft. The maintenance of these parts is carried out by Category B2 students.
