I would start out “when I started asking my grandmothers more about their families I didn’t know that their families and their stories would become just as fascinating as my own journey, even though many of my ancestors were already done with their lives. Their lives became real to me. And they are alive in my mind and heart. I hope to tell you more about our family and what I know today, and I hope they become more alive to you.”

Thanks for sharing. For me, this sounds like a prologue or a dedicatory page. One principles I often invite writers to do is leave themselves out of the story and let readers decide for themselves how to take the story. If our writing is successful, everything you just said would be apparent. So keep it, just move where you put it. Does that make sense? Also, check out my new channel so it doesn't take 8 months to get a response. kzitem.info/rock/QakaEPtI2RyMzL5-XoO36g
