Cold interiors could be down to poor performing radiators. Find out just how easy it is to bleed them with this how to guide.
Disclaimer: Take care when diagnosing faults with your heating system. This is only a guide to remove pockets of air trapped in your heating system. If you suspect anything else may be the cause, please consult a qualified professional.
To test this, turn your heating on and wait for your radiator to heat up. Making sure not to burn yourself, run your hand down the radiator. A cold spot could mean your radiator needs bleeding.
To do this, you will need,
A radiator bleeding key, a cloth or small towel for the excess water, a larger towel to catch spills.
First, make sure your heating is switched off, allowing your radiator time to cool.
Now locate the valve which can be found towards the top of the radiator.
Lay out your large towel underneath the radiator to protect the floor from any spills.
While using your cloth to catch the excess water, place the radiator key over the square pin inside the valve and turn anti-clockwise until you hear a hissing noise.
And when water begins to leak out, return it to the closed position.
Bleeding your radiators will not only produce more consistent heat but it will save you money on your energy bills as you don't need to set your thermostat so high.
