Don’t be scared! I have a great relationship with my MIL. It’s important to meet your potential spouse’s family plenty of times before you decide to get married, that way you know what you’re getting into. But usually a good man/woman is the product of good parents, so don’t worry too much :)

@@Pasadena14 I was adopted off secretly, so my bio Dad literally did not know I existed until I found him. I love my adopted family but I'm learning about where I came from - that's for me. Plus when parents adopt a kid, at least in Canada, they are put through interviews and are informed that their adoptee would likely try to find bio family one day - If they don't think that's okay, they don't get to adopt. Part of adopting a kid is understanding that you can be everything they need, but they might still want to know how they came to exist - and that's okay. Hope that explains it

@@Pasadena14 adoptees have a big disconnect in trying to fit in with the culture and environment they are adopted in vs what they come from (especially if u can see that they are adopted for example when the parents arent the same ethnicity) so even if many adoptees live their lives being okay with not exploring anything other than the culture of their home there is still a reality of people seeing them as foreign and as the place they come from many adoptees are fine until they get questioned on where they are from etc and they realise they might want to explore that so there is no better option it depends on the adoptee in question but that separation from the birth land and birth culture will always have an effect on us

I’m so happy your mother-in-law loves you, Ive been trying to be accepted by mine since 15 years old. Been with my SO for almost 10 years now since 14 and 15 years old. She told me I’ll never be family. The stray dogs they adopt are more family then I could ever been. Wouldn’t let my SO see me while I recovered when I got 6 surgeries in six years as a teen. Kicked me out during the pandemic expecting my SO to stay with her instead of me. (he left with me that day and we moved states away) I could write a novel about my monster in law. Now we’re in 20s and she cry’s and wonders why I cut contact with her and no longer speak to her. I’m so lucky my partner chooses me and gives me unconditional love. Though he wishes I could forgive his mom and have a relationship with her, I don’t know if I can , she gives me such bad anxiety it makes my skin crawl. Last time I saw her in person I had to take a medicine to stay calm around her. My therapist and family support me cutting her off for my health. But I feel like a bad person for not giving my partner his wish. I just know his mother doesn’t have it in her to be kind to me and after almost 10 years I can’t handle the abuse anymore.

Completely random fact about saffron: saffron is harvested from crocus flowers which are common in Oregon. Saffron comes from a very specific crocus and it is the stigma or 'male' part of the flower. For enough saffron to be harvasted for that sheet that you have I would probably estimate that was over 300 flowers. Edit: spelling

In Sweden we also use a lot of saffron. Our way is to grind it and then either bloom it in like 45 C warm milk or same temp just melted butter. Or let it steep a while in alcohol, like cognac, to extract as much flavour from the Saffron as possible. It also extracts tons of the yellow colour, but we are mostly after the saffron flavour. I believe the fat in the butter and milk help with extracting and retaining the aromas. And alcohol is able to keep aromas that isn’t able or very hard to dissolve into water, same reason why Vanilla extract uses alcohol in it. Cognac is popular because it’s a good flavour pairing to saffron, but really any high proof alcohol will work. Something neutral like Vodka will impart little to no flavour of its own, once the alcohol evaporated from the heat while cooking.
