Don’t let any of the ham go to waste when you have a bone in ham for a holiday dinner. It’s so simple to get all the meat off of the bone by using this simple method. If you don’t want to do this on the day of your ham dinner, just wrap the ham bone in aluminum foil and place it in the freezer. The ham bone can be frozen until you’re ready to turn it into a soup, scalloped potatoes and ham, a breakfast dish, omelets, or even a ham and cheese dip. Be sure to use the broth for soup!

DIRECTIONS:
1. Place the ham bone into a large pot. Cover with water. After bringing the water to a boil, turn down the heat. Simmer over low heat until the meat easily pulls away from the bone. This will take approximately for 60-90 minutes.
2. Remove the ham bone from the broth that was created. Let it cool until you can handle with your hands without getting burnt.
3. Pick off all the tender meat using a fork or your hands. Remove any fat. Be sure to only keep the nice tender pieces.
4. Use your ham in soups, casseroles, breakfast egg dishes, omelets, etc. see the links above for some of my favorite recipes using this ham. Be sure to use the broth too!
